Also note that 1000credits per invite is quite a bit--that also purchases 1 month of VIP. I would expect the number of PTM invites posted on TI to drop considerably.

I would have to agree oscarnater. I'm sure though, that is the intended goal of PTM so they can tighten up their user base. This is a very strategic move of a tracker. This makes their tracker more sought after, and hopefully users will respect their accounts and seed more, and know that trying to get an account back (even though it's against the rules, some will try) is going to be significantly harder for them. I personally support this move by PTM.

I see your point shadowbuild, but points are distributed via seeding, so the more you seed the more points you get, thus encouraging (and forcing) users who want to invite other users to seed. The class requirement for sending invites also went up, so again, you need to work harder to send invites promoting seeding for advancement.

Thus only making the price goes up. Seriously, this won't solve anything.

I seem to be missing something. I can't see how this is a bad thing. To get points you need to seed, to seed is maintain a proper status and get promoted, not to mention share. If you want to invite someone you need to seed and share more. What am I missing?

Still easy to get an invite for real users. It just gets rid of the rampant cheating/bad users that setup an invite tree for themselves.

I think it depends on the problem they are trying to solve.
If they believe people get invites too easily then it solves the problem. If they believe that people who have to work harder for the invite and will only invite respected users - only time will tell but one does not necessarily = the other.

eg will you be more likely to look after a more expensive car, house, coat etc - perhaps, but again it is all relative and depends.

just my $0.002 worth, I'm not a member and not sure I need to join especially if they are having trouble and needing to close their doors or up their invite exclusivity

The way I see this is that it will reduce the appearance of PTM being an entry level tracker.

Look at the number of PTM invites given away in the 10% forum. Many of these are 'just ask' requirements. I can tell you from experience that there is a lot of cruft in the 10% section of T-I forums. I made the mistake when I first joined up of overly trusting users--and combine that with the expectation that 10%'s are just starting off, I accepted people with less than stellar tracker performance. For example, of the 9 people I recruited through T-I, only 2 of them were promoted to the next class. 7 of them either don't use their accounts or accumulated an unacceptable amount of HnR's. At least 4 of them signed up and never logged in again. 2 users were banned from T-I for other reasons.

This was my fault--I should have been more discerning when accepting applications, especially considering how much I like PTM. It was a noob mistake.

And consider that this is what happened to a well-meaning member at T-I, a place where tracker's rules are to be respected. Imagine what happens on a trading forum.

With the way the new system works, you can't invite someone until you've been on PTM for nearly two months, and when you do get invite abilities, the cost in bonus points will be high enough that you won't want to invite just anyone. You have to make them count.

That said, I haven't seen the quality of PTM as a whole decreasing. I think PTM staff was taking a proactive approach in order to make sure the site didn't continue down a negative path. The tracker has enough forward momentum that it doesn't need fresh blood like it used to, and therefore they can be more discerning with respect to new users.

I think PTM is a great general tracker. I don't think of it as competing with IPT or TL, though. If you only compare the number of torrents, users, or long term seeding, I would imagine that IPT and TL would be it hands down. To me, PTM has its own charm. I could say it is the community, or the way the rules are flexible for those users without a high upload speed, or the VIP only invite thread...but it is hard to deconvolute those strengths from the pink tinted glasses I see the tracker through. It was my first private tracker, and I've greatly enjoyed my time there.

TL;DR--The rule change should reduce the amount of shitty users that join PTM by some amount--but the magnitude of this change is up to debate.
