    Default Blink-182 Rewards Pirating Fans

    http://torrentfreak.com/blink-182-re...g-fans-110804/

We’ve said it a few times before; pirates are the biggest music fans, and buy
    more music than ‘legitimate’ consumers.

Luckily there are some artists that get this.

Blink-182 has risen from the dead recently, and the band seems to understand
that their fans shouldn’t be treated like thieves.

Instead, they used several unauthorized fan clips that appeared on YouTube to
make a clip for their latest single.

“To launch our first single in eight years, AT&T helped us search YouTube
for every instance of fans using our music without our permission. And then we
rewarded them for it. This film is made out of clips from all those videos.
Thanks for being a fan,” they write.

I love Blink-182. I have followed them since high school. "All the small things" is still my favorite song by them. I hope they make those songs with the simple messages that yielded them hits in the early 00's. I haven't heard much of them in a while...

    Great news!
I hope this phenomenon spreads and more artists face the truth or become 'enlightened' instead of treating their 'illegitimate' consumers as shit. Many people find out about bands and artists they never knew about through youtube and p2p filesharing. You try it, listen to it and decide to support them, some of them will threaten you with lawsuits or let you go if you pay a ridiculous fine, others will be grateful of a new fan and supporter who can share his/her experience even further. Besides, it's good marketing and doesn't cost you anything.

Wait, they used user's clips in their video? That made them money? That's not a reward. They're just ripping off their fans. At best it's an acknowledgment that people put their stuff in freaking youtube videos. If they wanted to reward them they should have sent them a copy of the CD they were using, or their new one.

Congrats Blink 182 you've one upped your fans by taking the least form of copyright infringement and perpetrated the worst (using their work for gain).
