Default uTorrent preparing paid version (via cNET)

(Original Story by Seth Rosenblatt from cNet)
uTorrent preparing paid version | The Download Blog - Download.com

A paid upgrade to the popular torrent manager uTorrent is in the works, the makers of the program announced today.
Less than a month after the release of uTorrent 3.0 (download), the program's parent company, BitTorrent Inc., revealed plans to introduce a paid upgrade called uTorrent Plus. Though it's still in development and unavailable to the public, uTorrent Plus promises to include tools that will eliminate codec problems, convert file formats, and move content between devices, according to the blog post announcing the product.

Also in that blog post, Jordy Berson, director of product management for uTorrent, promised that the free version "will receive the same level of commitment and development resources as it does now."
Around 100 million people call uTorrent their preferred torrent manager. To put that number in perspective, the security suite AVG Antivirus Free claims around 110 million active users, while Google CEO Larry Page just revealed that the Chrome browser has about 160 million users.
"uTorrent Plus is designed for people who are looking for a single solution to find, get, and play content anywhere, on any device," Berson wrote. The price point for uTorrent Plus has not been announced, The company has also created a sign-up page for people who want more information on uTorrent Plus.

I really don't like this direction uTorrent is going in. I had to to downgrade back to 2.2.1 after that terrible update. I don't blame them for wanting to make some $$$, but I will definitely be skipping this one.

It's logically that they want to make some money after this huge success. They can't sell ads, because most of their users share copyright protecte material, without the proper rights. Otherwise would be advertisement on the client with torrent specific content a really good idea. It would make a lot of money, if you'll consider the huge userbase.
I think it's the only rational step they could have made. Nobody can blame them.
Am I understanding this right and the the pro version will only add some features to the current version, but nothing will be restricted that is already available?

Oh my.. I can already picture how people will be obtaining cracked versions of this new uTorrent, expecting it to revolutionize their torrenting, and just think about the massive bans at private trackers that will follow - geez.

There's a torrent client which can do all of that for free, its called Vuze. And yes, its bloated as a pregnant woman. Don't know about converting the file formats though.

Shame that utorrent seems to be turning to shit considering back in the day it used to be a very good client, still I guess its how things go. I dont blame them for trying to make money from it but think that they def need to focus a bit more to stop things going completely downhill in the meantime.

I second the torrenting. The irony of downloading a cracked torrent client to download a bunch of other illegal material, using the cracked torrent client. Surely, the uTorrent developers must have that thought in the back of their heads?

lol thats what we used to do back in the day with limewire to download limewire pro :P

i think this is a good step and one they had to take (i wont be using it and idk how many people will be paying for it but it does bring some money in for them)
i just hope they go about it the right way and dont turn themself into a target for making money from piracy e
even tho if they do it the right way they could be doing it so they have the argument that utorrent isnt just a torrent client and its a media converter/organizer etc etc
