I stumbled across an article about a new file sharing protocol while browsing one of the file sharing forums I frequented. It may have been ZeroPaid or the old FST, when it was Kazaa oriented. I quickly downloaded the client, an early version of the original BitTorrent client, and the rest, as they say, is history.
I've used most forms of filesharing at one time or another and still do. Once BT is replaced by something better, I'll be using that as well.
I want to say that an old college buddy of mine told me about torrents. I really didn't understand the technology, so I continued to use Limewire.
A few years later, (2007) I had a hard drive failure, went to Best Buy and the guy I was speaking to about hard drives told me about torrents. When he told me that I could get full Japanese Anime series through this technology I was hooked. He was kind enough to tell me step by step what to do. I joined BakaBT (forgot what it use to be called) after I got a better understanding of the technology and the rest is history.
Thats, awesome, it seems like people have unique ways of finding it
All the music, movies, games, apps, ect
It must be all people's purpose.
I honestly don't remember. I started using kazza when it was cool and I *guess* i grew into torrents. I've been doing it so long I'll never stop till they take away my internet access!
It all started with audio books for me. So nice to continue to read while on the road.
eBooks and eLearning content. I was in college back then and it was amazing (though really overwhelming) to see how much you learn from the resources available.
natural progression i guess
went from our pirate school network (friend of mine added some code into the schools intranet so we all had access/privleges and i used to rip CDs and upload them onto the network and everyone would grab em we had others with games and movies etc)
and then joined IRC file servers to get more content for our network and moved onto to napster - winmx - limewire - torrents - who knows whats next
i still use frostwire now and then if its just one song or something small i cant find
