Default Top VPN Providers - Torrent Friendly?

This will be my last month for a seedbox since I will have 42Mbit/35Mbit connection later this month. I am now looking into a good VPN service that will tunnel my torrent traffic only.

I won't be using more then 1.5TB of total traffic/month. Also, I want to use VPN ONLY for uTorrent. It needs to keep up with my home connection and hoping to pay $10/month.

BTGuard is out of the question. I read many reviews and they simply suck with terrible speeds.

    Thanks!

    https://freedomvpn.info/order/

i'm not sure about the speeds, try them out for a month and see how it goes.
they are definitely torrent friendly, as they offer seedboxes too.
    price around 7 - 8 euro/mo

Not bad, I'll check them out.

Any other recommendations? Preferably a provider one uses and likes.

I am currently using Bolehvpn from Malaysia, BolehVPN - Unthrottle your P2P

I tried out the 3 days trial at around US$1.80 and found out the speed was quite good for me as I constantly getting above 10 Mbps/s. The upload speed was nearing my max out ( > 2 Mbps) from the ISP.

The charges for the service is roughly around $10/mth but if you sign up longer it will be even cheaper at around $6-7/mth

Awesome, exactly in the price range I'm looking for!

Do you know if it's possible to route only my torrent traffic through VPN? Like on uTorrent you can use a proxy address, have you tried to see if it works that way?

    Thanks!

There is no easy way to do this with a standard VPN tunnel. The way the computer decides which interface (VPN or direct connection) is based on IP routing decisions which can't be made to differentiate between torrent and other traffic very easily. In this situation most people recommend to run the VPN and torrent client in a virtual machine using VMWare or Virtualbox. That way all the torrent traffic goes through the VPN the virtual machine is using, whereas all other traffic still uses the direct connection on the main machine.

I would actually recommend against getting a VPN for $7+ per month, and instead invest in either a seedbox (with SSH access) or a VPS. You can get very good deals on these for $15 or lower per month and they do all you're asking for and more. Even if you just get a seedbox with SSH access, you can create an SSH tunnel to the seedbox and use that connection as a proxy to route all your torrent traffic over via the setting in uTorrent. That would also be more secure than many VPN protocols (such as PPtP) and you get a seedbox with it as well. A VPS could do all this AND you could install a VPN server on it (such as the secure OpenVPN) and be your own VPN provider.

    Dear Perun,

Good idea on using a VM! Thanks for your input. I have been using a seedbox and it's good and all, but it's a waste since I have enough buffer for a lifetime and will just be downloading things on occasion. Rather save money with VPN. Having 35Mbit upload at home plus 12TB of storage, I will be able to build ratio over time easily if needed.

I'm aiming for OpenVPN due to faster speeds and it being more secure. I'm leaning towards SwitchVPN which is like $6/month if you buy few months in advance.

Still doing bit more research on VPN's and will report back.

Yes it is possible to route through proxy via utorrent while you surf through your normal ISP route. I have tried that with utorrent and so far so good.

Couple of important things to look at.

Make sure the provider opens up ports. I noticed switchvpn does. You might also want to look at TUVPN Services: OpenVPN, PPTP, Multiple VPN Nodes & High Anonymity Web Proxies or StrongVPN.com is VPN service, offers security and anonymity for personal use

Definitely go with OpenVPN. It is far more secure. It uses better encryption and if there is a service disconnect it does not drop routes while it tries to reconnect, so none of your traffic will be router unsecurely. PTTP does, which means if it disconnects, all your traffic continues on your standard unsecured internet connection.

Good to know Arakasi! TUVPN is a bit out of my price range, and read few complaints where StrongVPN will kick you off from DMCA complaints and no refunds (they want you to pay 6 months in advance).

I am starting to think of just finding a reliable cheap seedbox that is $8-10/month with 100GB storage. Reason being that with VPN I will have to connect to a server in NL from USA which will greatly slow down my speeds I'm guessing. Like if I try to DL from FTP in NL it goes at 650kb/s. Only way to get full speeds is to have multiple connections. Is it possible to do that with OpenVPN so that I can get close to full speeds of my home connection (42Mbit Down and 35Mbit up)?
