Anyone here ever been caught by the feds for uploading/downloading?
I recently read that nearly 100,000 people were sued during 2010.

Yeah but it was before I got into private trackers and also Rutgers University protected me because a couple of floors share the same NAT and thus the same external IP, but the university Office of Information Tech knew it was me based on my incoming/outgoing traffic. They sent everyone with the same IP address a message then sent me a personalized one :(
If I ever got caught I wouldn't be posting here, I'd be running away from my computer. IMO once you get sued or get in any other serious trouble it's time to take a break from filesharing.
ive received a letter from my isp for downloading a copyrighted movie because my roommate is a dumbass for downloading from a public tracker. i should probably stop being an asshole and let him use one of my accounts..
so does that mean if you use a private tracker you are almost guaranteed to be safe?
to chinaman, what did it say and did you get any punishment?
I've heard of people being busted downloading from torrentleech and thats a private tracker. Private trackers get shutdown every year, it's just usually their staff that gets all the heat. All that being said, there is a reason private trackers are private and thats to try to remain secure. Just don't download popular movies when they just come out off public trackers.
I haven't necessarily been caught but back in 2004 i remember my isp turning my internet off because of limewire activity they simply gave me another chance and turned it back on, all i had to say is that it wouldn't happen again.
I've gotten some DMCA letters an some auto voice messages. But I have not gotten any since using private trackers.
I dowloaded a ton of anime off nyaa torrents this weekend and then read an article a few days ago about users there being sued, so I pray I'm not one of them.
I have never been caught on private and open trackers, but i do preffer private site because open trackers are indeed risky. (especially as gamesover said, don't download populair torrents there.)
