Default What does one do with old trackers you don't use anymore

I previously posted a thread of how many trackers does one need, and it seems that a lot of people use trackers to "climb the ladder". When you have a set of trackers you like, what do you do with the ones you don't need anymore? I guess the account would be shutdown due to inactivity, does that affect the person who invited you?

This would affect your inviter but not in a severe way as in a cheater, trader, or scammer would.

Depending on where you got the invite I would suggest keeping it even if you do not use it much. As on here you can lose your account for dropping an invite receive by one of our users due to the fact that you have wasted their invite that could have went to someone in need of it.

We all have a couple of trackers that we don't want or need this I am sure of as I know I have a few myself. I tend to join a lot of sites through open invites to avoid such a scenario. Although the bigger trackers out there don't tend to open themselves up.

I'm not looking to drop any sites at this point, I don't have too many (although I noticed I'm working harder on trying to build good ratios now that I have received several invites through this site!). I am member on only 6, so not a problem for me, I just wonder how people with like 30 manage. I guess that you just use them once and a while to get something and keep a good ratio.

Mind you, some sites have limits to the number of users. Wouldn't those sites be better with an really active member instead of one that just uses it once in a while to keep his membership?

Yes, that would be perfect, but it is impossible to only let people who would be active to signup. This isn't such an issue because most of the trackers aren't in their full capacity, and the ones which are enforces the activity rule and prun accounts often.

I fail to see how someone can be active at 30 trackers. If they didn't got in by open singups but got all the 30 invites, the name of this type of person is "colector"

Being disabled for inactivity should never endanger your inviter so long as you used the account and followed the rules. To ask someone to keep membership at a torrent site that you no longer use or want is stupid.

As for the question, it depends on the tracker, some allow you to pm them in order to have your acc disabled others rather you not log in until the acc is pruned. Personally I just read the faq and do what that says.

Also I have 32 trackers that I was invited too and use the majority of them weekly and some daily, a few others are niche sites that I use when I'm after something in particular. Dang, guess this make me a collector :/

Ahh don't make this face, you know what i mean by collector. But if you just ask for invites, sit on your accounts and just log in to keep them alive, then yes, you are one. Or joining 10 scene trackers in example.
I thought it was very dificult to stay active at 15 trackers when i had that number and i certainly didn't use that many.
Your ISP must be pissed by the traffic you have monthly if you are active at 32 trackers.

    I will rephrase:
Regular people can't be active in 30 trackers without just merely loging in to keep the account alive.

Most sites will have at their FAQs when they will disable you for inactivity, some only requires you to log in and others will make you download to keep your account.

Well if I have a tracker that I don't use anymore I give it to friends ( as long as it's a tracker of what I know my friends look for ) else I will give it away to a person who really needs it .

But having few trackers ( i mean 5-6 you use daily/weekly ) won't help you much if you search for a rare torrent :) or an old one and you are looking for seeders .

I have 18 trackers which I use about 5-6 of them daily others weekly but with those I'm sure if I search for something I find it .

About trackers where I join on free sign-up and I don't like the tracker and I know I don't need it I ask a staff to delet/disable it or let it get disable for inactivity .

Be warned that if you do this with a tracker that you got in by an invite received here and your friend screw up, then you will be held responsible and probably will get banned.

I am active on all of mine; 10 now I think.
But I can tell you off the top of my head; 5 of them are niche, 2 are scene releases. 1 General. 2 Music.

The scene ones are set-up with an RSS download feed - used daily. The music ones, I use when I discover new music I want - pretty much every day.
The general one I only use when i can't find it on any other tracker.
And the Niche ones...whenever I want or find something I want on them..

EDIT: If you are done "climbing the ladder" and don't plan on contributing to the tracker in anyway, (uploading, donating, seeding, ect) the honorable thing to do would be message an admin on the site, and tell them that you don't plan on using your account anymore so their can prune it and open a spot for another person.
If you have climbed the "proverbial ladder" you shouldn't need the site anymore anyways..

That would probably be a good way to avoid any sort of issues and your inviter probably wouldn't get in trouble at all either while also showing your awareness that you want to give up your spot for someone who will contribute to the site.

And this especially won't be an issue if you have been a member for months and contributed a lot.

If you face this type of problem, then I think you have the time to visit those site at least once in a month. Do not download anything if you don't want, but visiting those sites once in a month saves those accounts from being pruned or deleted due to inactivity. And who knows you might need that particular tracker at some point of time, someday. So, it will not be a stupid work to save those trackers for so called future need.
