I didn't read every response so this might be mentioned already, but:

Assuming that the private and public trackers both used the same security and everything was identical except whether or not it was invite only or open signups, the private would be safer.

What it comes right down to is the quality of people running the private tracker in question, how well they secure your information, whether or not they are in a country that would be easier for the gov't to take action against them, etc.

Personally, I would NEVER go back to a public tracker after having used a private - but I never got a letter or email from either.

Need help? PM me and I'll find you the answer.

much much safer... they target mainstream. They may hit a couple of private trackers to scare everyone or if they are really notorious, however, they prefer to get the big ones like TPB.

Well what the anti piracy organisations do is just to scare off people that don't know much about torrents so they just pick a few things out and try to make a big media circus around it to scare people off. They don't have the resources to get everyone, scaring people is more effective, they will likely just stay with taking down the big public ones so it gets lots of media attention.

Of course Private is was more safer then public.
Because they are easily to infiltrate and bring then to court.

Now Private trackers also are a target, specially those top trackers.
But pirates will always find a way to share adn rip material.

in all honesty i think that when it comes to the internet nothing is really safer. Public trackers, private trackers either way your taking a risk. everytime you type in information anywhere it is a risk. Private trackers let in only certain people but sometimes a rotten apple gets in. But hey i love my communities i am involved in. I am as careful as I can be. And i think that Private trackers do what they can to keep us as safe as they can by givin us advise and guidance about our information. It is sometimes up to us to be smart
