i think it depends on what tracker it is demonoid for example is basicly public anyone can get in invte and they have all your info stored but then trackers what.cd that ive been trying to get an invite to for the longest might be safer because it would be so hard to get in to get evidence to convict and seize but thats only my opinion and public you dont have your info stored

private trackers are better, but they do keep more details. whether or not the authorities go after everyone on there is another thing. probably go after the people with the highest ups. they care more about what you up than you dl.

like drugs. the cops could care less how much you use, they want to know if you sell.

In general I would say yes. That's because you can upload anything on most public trackers without any consequences while you get banned in private trackers. ThePirateBay does not delete any torrents as far as I know :)

I think that private trackers are a little safer, especially now a days anyway. On public trckers there are a lot more people uploading material and/or a lot more people in general on a tracker like The Pirate Bay. I think the pirate bay had like 25 million users in '08 (correct me if im wrong) where most private trackers are smaller so they are not such a big blip on the radar of "the man". But really who knows. Use a blocklist.

Define "safe". It can be safe/unsafe in many different ways.

The harder the tracker to get into, the safer it is in my opinion.

Definitely private trackers are safer than public trackers. However, this does not mean that private trackers are immune from government or any anti-p2p invasion. Look at the event that took place in TL for example. Therefore, if private trackers are like this then how much more vulnerable is it for public trackers? The answer is much, much, much more vulnerable. That is why you don't use public trackers. Using a seedbox is also a plus, although this still does not 100% protect a person. As what others have said already, the elite sites should be safer than other private sites.
