Thread: Anonymizers: Good or Bad?

Hello all,

I have seen some trackers post on their login pages that they will ban for using anonymizers. I've been using BTGuard for a while, and it seems to work well, but I don't want to get banned from a new tracker for using it.

Is it common to ban for anonymizing? Who here uses anonymizers?

When using private trackers there isn't really a need for an anonymizer.

I guess that why private trackers don't like you using them

I have to say though, I don't think I've seen trackers threatening to ban users for using one... Seems a bit odd

i know some of trackers strickly banned to using this anonimity stuff. and they are kinda right. for example u using a tracker already, and with this programs or sites u can make another account too. and they cant know who are you. or u using it with your real account, and maybe someone used it and got banned, so they probably ban u too, they cant know who are u..
so dont use it if not really necessery(and i dont think it does).
and now few trackers not accepting new users with proxy, socks or other things. (bitme for example.)

Trackers don't like when users use them but I think they're pretty ineffective.

I see how someone could use an anonomyzer to get around a ban. But couldn't they also just wait for the IP lease from their ISP to expire - or even get a new ISP - and then sign up again? What else do trackers have other than IP?

Omnichrono, why ineffective? What do you think about PeerGuardian, etc.? I'm just trying to be cautious, but I don't want to waste my time if these don't really help.

@BThoolihan... I'm not to sure but I would assume your right; unless, they ban your entire IP range. On a side but still related note are there any good and free anonomyzer programs?

Anonymizers work by running your traffic through a proxy server. There are free ones, but they don't give you as much bandwidth as the pay ones, so they usually slow your downloads significantly.

They don't like it because all they see is torrenting from 1 IP address. Now if several people do that, what's to differentiate between each user besides their log in IP? You should always log in to a private tracker from your home IP address as well.

Also a heads up, if anyone is caught using a proxy or anonymizer on TI here it is an instant ban. Keep in mind they are easy for me to analyze and detect.
