what is the best public tracker and why?
I want to ask you what is the best torrent tracker did you try? or hear about?
Hmm..
Why go public, when you can go private! Well In My Opinion. I would have to say IPT! Then close up TL! I chose IPT over TL cuz of porn. Cant get enough of it! People will say FTN, and others. Im not a member their, so I cant comment, but people say its hyped. But is a good tracker nevertheless.

I don't think there is something considered to be the best public tracker. Torrents in those trackers die easily, especially on apps.

From public trackers I use Demonoid and TPB. A lot of stuff. But I must admit that I really don't like pub trackers.
Also as mentioned by IPB, IPT and TL are almost like "public" but they are private.
Huge amount of members and a lot of files.
I feel bt-chat.com is the best public torrent site, after demonoid which is semi-private.
TPB has too much junk to sift through.
..and here I thought IPT was private! anyway I recommend Extra torrents.com, great content & what most impresses me is the news channel run by the staffs, gives me a pulse reading of what is going-on in our community.
Before I found Torrent-Invites I used mostly The pirate bay until it nearly died. These days it's very unstable and pretty empty the last time I checked. What I found out to be a decent public "tracker" is google.com ... just type the search term and torrent and you will find often something valuable.
Now I am mostly using IPTorrents for new stuff and Demonoid for older things (Movies, TV Series, Music...)
Its been a long time
But every once in a while i do need to use it
In my opinion kickass torrents is doing good
