I see your point. You're inferring no one on
SCC watches the files they download to their seedbox. This is untrue since I watch most of the files I download. I admit, in the past, I simply hopped on the packs just to increase my buffer, but that's so I wouldn't have to worry about not meeting a 1:1 ratio in the regular browse section. Nowadays, I select the files I want from each pack rather than downloading the entire torrent.
This act alone brings up another unwanted scenario. If too many people are simply selecting files as oppose to seeding entire torrents, we have the partial-seeding concern. If not enough users seed the entire torrent, you get slow speeds which is definitely not to my liking and I doubt it would be yours.
What I don't understand is how having 0 leechers have anything to do with playing and viewing files - what you specifically mentioned is the real purpose of trackers. If you're so content on watching these files, wouldn't you want a higher ratio of seeders to leechers than the other way around? I know I said this before, but the point clearly still stands.
If from a swarm of 1000 users, there were only 1 seeder who have the complete file you wanted while the rest of them simply downloaded the new blockbuster films, wouldn't you say that 1:999 ratio is not something you'd prefer?
