Default Caught By Torrent Police..Now Protect your Privacy!

I saw this news yesterday and even bumped into one of the threads in this forum. There are a few methods you can employ to protect yourself from this sort of tracking when you're sharing files with BitTorrent, thus setting up a layer of protection between you and those who might track you and report youPersonally I use one or combination of some of the methods below. Guys add if you have any other sleek techniques. For the betterment of the bit torrent community :)

    #1
Use the IP-blocking application PeerGuardian2 (PG2) which uses a constantly updated blacklist of IP addresses known to track your activity. Easy to setup and my fav

    #2
User TOR. However, Tor is a proxy project that's already choked for servers and speed, and using Tor to download via BitTorrent is considered poor form.

    #3
SSH Socks Proxy: While you're tinkering away with your home network it's also worth setting up a SSH SOCKS proxy to encrypt and secure all your remote traffic too

    #4
Use BTGuard. A subscription service though :cursing: Located in Canada, BTGuard is a subscription service (about $7/month) that promises anonymous BitTorrent connections, unlimited speeds, and that it can bypass your ISP's bandwidth throttling (if your ISP throttles BitTorrent)

So stay safe - Download and share!

Just a few thoughts from me regarding your tips...

    #1 use of PG2
pro ... con ... bottom line: they're always outdated.

    #3 and #4
They are essentially the same thing because BTGuard uses/is a Socks 5 Proxy service - just "specialized" in P2P. You should always remember, that all (!) of your traffic goes through the proxy. It's up to you if you trust your proxy provider enough in order to give him all your private data (=traffic). You should at least make sure that he keeps no log files.

Your list is a good start though, rudrak.

    regards.

peerguardian2 is outdated and doesn't suport windows 7. They never made it a trusted driver so 7 won't let you download and install. However, there is a program out that is the same as peer guardian and is updated more then peerguardian.

Here is a link to the website to download it and the lists of new features for peerblock

I use Giganews, and they give free VPN, so it suffices for now lol.

EDIT: If you own a seedbox, you could browse using your Box's IP as well.

Wow! Thanks rudrak for this info. I wish I had known about all this a few months ago. Let me add, having a seedbox is a good investment. BTW, very nice thread.
