Default Caught By The Torrent Police...A Warning!

Hello T-I family and friends. I have been offline for a while due to circumstances I feel a need to share with you all. 3 months ago i got a call from my service provider stating I was using too many gigs each month. i was asked about filesharing, which I denied, and was told not to let it happen again. Well, although I tried to manage my torrenting habit, I was unsuccessful.

One month later my super high-speed internet was suspended for one full year. I begged, prayed, and pleaded with the isp bigwigs but to no avail. So now I've had to make other arrangements just to surf the web. So be careful out there family cos bittorrent is a helluva drug. The sheer addiction of it all can get you in some serious trouble. :cursing:

    Monet,
If you don't mind me asking, what part of the world are you in, and who was your ISP?

HAHA Between my downloading and uploading, I wouldn't be surprised if I hit close to a TB a month at times. HAHA

I've never had my net suspended for general torrenting, but I've had it shut down temporarily due to specific files, and companies like EA have sent threatening letters to my ISP to shut me down. Always back on within a few hours. I default to the "I own this, therefore I have legal right to one digital copy, and I'm taking advantage of my right, and my ISP can tell EA to shove it". And they did.

The service provider I use has a limit of 200GB per month for download and upload combined. I don't really have to worry. I have only gone over this limit twice in past few Years. If I ever go over I just let them know I will just switch providers if it bothers them. That fixes things.

The other main provider where I live has unlimited download/upload, but is a bit slower. I would check in to see if there is a provider like that where you live.

That''s terrible Monet! So what were these arranges you had to make? I would suggest satellite internet personally. Not the best thing, but of course you can still browse the web then. Or talk to a neighbor and see if you can't share a wifi signal with him. But seriously NEVER Deny or accept the fact of file sharing. Especially if they call you up personally. I've had an inquire before and there are simple methods to over coming that. one, act stupid.
"There's limits on this kind of stuff!? But I must watch the Youtube."
Second, apologize and make an explanation.
"I'm really sorry but I own a server farm for processing maya models and I need to get access to it to finish my degree"
This works for me because over here shaw knows I use a lot of ftp to my server farm *cough* seedbox *cough* plus they know they are a rip off. $60 a month and only 100GB? Ya I went through that in a day, get out. I hope you have found a good alternative solution Monet, best wishes.

Well, i would get a seedbox if i were you?

i live in a country where all ISP have a montly data quota. Mine is 200 Gb per month (upload not counted, only download) and that's a rather high limit for my country. Also, you wont do much torrenting with 256k upload speed.

Anywayz, i wonder where you live?

i have had a simulair situation when i was younger , when i was on my parrents internet i did alot of file shareing. our IPS was in agrenment with warner brothers and the agreement was that WB was allowed to search what the users were uploading. i was caught twice for up loading/ seeding movies and my parents had to change the name of the person on the account. yea they weren't happy

i now use a seedbox with a FTP account its less obvious and cleaner :)

For those interested, I'm in America and my ISP was Comcast and apparently you can't go over 250 gigs per month. I would now recommend a seedbox to anyone that does a lot of torrenting using comcast . Well, lesson learned. As for the arrangements, I had to go with another provider at 3 times the cost and less than half the speed. Bummer!
