Yup, i also think that the recent scandal mentioned above by jb123 has a lot to do with it. As they say, there is no such thing as bad press. Now I don't think this scandal will prevent anyone from seeking an invite, in fact it may help boost curiosity about the site. Personally, I haven't decided if I would like to join, some of the details are quite disturbing.

We all make mistakes - and to be completely honest, it's not a positive thing.

Even unrelated - if for whatever reason it got the attention of the authorities that look into things like that, there could be a *slightly* heightened number of federal agencies interested in infiltrating ptp as well. And I'm sure one group wouldn't be against helping another (MPAA) if they thought it would shut down the site or arrest its users.

(No I'm not saying it's likely or even reasonable, just that it is *possible*)

There is no renewed interest. The interest has always been the same but now invites are given only to ELITE class which consists of around 100 people. So people who want to get in are not getting in and they are piling up and creating the hype)

Personally, I don't get why so many people are interested in PtP. I found their content to be quite underwhelming with the same scene releases available everywhere.

As well, I'm surprised that no one remembers that this is the site that allowed a user to simply walk away with their database to do with as he pleased. I know that if I were the type of person who would steal a database like this, I would also likely be the kind of person who would seek to profit from the theft, ie selling to the highest bidder (probably anti-p2p). In a climate as harsh as it has become for filesharers, it's surprising that people don't place as a high a value on security as they used to.

Now with the recent child porn allegations and the possibility of an investigation along with that other debacle, I would be extremely hesitant when signing up to PtP. But, that's just my opinion, one that is not likely to be very popular.

As opposed to what? Grabbing pitch forks and torches and flying to wherever he lived to extract vigilante justice? They couldn't prevent it, what they *could* do, was recover from it, and they did that quite well.

I call bullshit. It was very easily preventable and speaks volumes to the site's security. I mean what kind of a sysop allows login details to be viewed by users who have no reason to ever access the database. That would seem to be the most basic of security measures...do not give out your username and password to strangers.

I'm sorry, but that's a big fail in my book.

The same scene releases might be available elsewhere, but like most 0 day tracker content, they die within a few days. I find that out of the movie trackers I regularly use (**, PTP, GOEM, TC, TheDVDClub and Karagarga) PTP is the one most likely to not only have the content I need, but to offer it at at decent (if not always exceptional) speeds. I'd say that's a good reason to be impressed.

I mean other than PTP is the best movie tracker i belong to for reasons already mentioned, i think there are two other reasons for this upswing in requests.

For starters i think the whole staff member who basically nerdragediquit recently generated some buzz and made them relevant again. When people found out that it's harder to get an invite than they thought, it made them want it even more, leading them here to our request board.

Now this may not be entirely fact, but its a pattern i notice. Requests for specific trackers come in waves. Remember when SCC was highly requested a few weeks ago, or when BCG was so requested that it would take up like a quarter of the first page? You just get surges here and there and when a request gets filled it makes everyone swarm to bump their own request.

So i think that when someone took notice of the whole PTP drama thread and saw that everyone was rushing to PTP's defense by showering them with praises, they were like "wow this must be a good tracker." So that may have created the first request setting the gears in motion. Watch its just a coincidence and i'm wrong on all points lol.

I totally agree. But, I find the quality of most, if not all, scene releases to be incredibly lacking. Their rules are archaic, but understandable when you consider they are meant to be demos and not transparent copies. So, you can't really blame the scene for the substandard quality.

Problems at PtP aside, I think PtP could potentially be a great movie tracker if they could somehow encourage more quality user-created content. But, with the proliferation of scene releases, this seems unlikely. This is the main reason that I prefer the smaller unnameable movie trackers that place a high value on quality and security. I'm not talking C* or PtN, but "those which cannot be named", lol. But, I guess any old DVD tracker will also do for quality, that is if it's focused on untouched DVDs.

That's just my opinion though. I'm sure PtP will suit the needs of most users. I just have a problem with their lack of security. I mean they have had some very public blunders. Stolen DB and sysops sharing child porn so openly. Both of these incidents clearly show a real lack of security.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I also find it sad that people only really become interested when they find out they can't have something.
