Thread: Are you ever worried about being caught by the government?

I'm not talking about being caught by the people running some private torrent for giving away accounts here. Today, 2 of my floormates got C&D (cease and desist) letters from some organization. They showed them to me and they were pretty scary. Of course, they were using public torrents and downloading a lot of files. Still, I had never really thought about what would happen if the government snatched your IP... it wouldn't be that hard after all since it is displayed in the list of peers at all times.

So... do you know people that have gotten C&D letters? What happened to them afterwards? How vulnerable are private trackers anyways?

Been using Private trackers for some time now, and the only complaints i get is from my ISP about excessive bandwidth usage.

Nope not worried about it. Never heard of it happening in Australia.

I doubt that will ever happen outside the US.

No such thing in Croatia for now, but our backward country has a tradition to copy the USA in everything they do, so it wouldn't surprise me if it happens one day :)

Haven't heard one word about it in Jamaica, besides..99% of the population here pirates anyway xD
But when I move back to the states..I dunno, I might stop downloading for a while.

Wow, nobody even worries the slightest bit. I'm in Canada actually... so it is technically not illegal to download music here. I just have to watch out on movies and games and that kind of thing. I think that Canada is still a lot safer than the States.
