Default LeechersLair soon to be gone ?

This was the message received yesterday. After a couple weeks ago, they moved to another server, now it's more likely to shut down, due to tracker's expenses, which apparently are not to be covered for February, and so...the site is about to be closed down for good....

although I'm not a member of LL, I don't think it's gonna close down because I was a witness of similar situations on another trackers and they have always somehow managed to continue their work...

the BitTorrent World is not what it once was...now the competition is harsh...it's either you have the means to sustain yourself, or die... LL has to compete with trackers, that don't have these money problems, but with much more users and torrents...

I don't know about LL but as mentioned above this does seem to be the theme with many trackers, I've had a conversation with the admin of another tracker and from what he says the costs are shockingly low as long as you're not providing seedboxes. Initial server cost is the highest part and if you have any expertise you can build one. I figure that most owners either program themselves or have a member do it in exchange for benefits and the bandwidth needs are negligible, at least on this tracker that I'm referring to. Obviously time is an issue but even then they often have members do much of the work for free; from what I can tell the average tracker costs less than $250 USD on a monthly basis not including any payment for "time".

if U put aside the money problem and just look the problem with number of torrents which are indexed, I've experienced that some trackers solve that problem in a way that they just download files from other trackers with better offer and pre-time ( like TL e.g. ) and upload the same files on their own trackers... basically, they only do copy/paste and their problem with number of indexed torrents is solved...

for example, BitSpyder was frequently accused that it '' steals '' torrents from BitMe and puts them on its own torrents list... of course, there can't be any arguement of stealing anything but we could talk about the effort & originality of some tracker itself...

I have recently joined LL, and to be honest, I kind of expected more then it has to offer :(. It is _just_ another general tracker, like Bitsoup or IPT. I would say, I did not find _any_ unique content on LL. Maybe, I was not looking hard enough...

Well, I guess, one way to bring those donations in is to open tracker to new members :) LL is having open signup at the moment :) We will see if this helps to overcome financial problems :)
