Default Your view about banning countries!

This is my first thread and I made this by seeing that BitMeTv has recently banned Romania. There is a sticky in bittorrent-discussion section about banned countries which shows that there are many countries banned from different trackers!!
The staffs say that they found many cheaters from that country for the reason of banning.
But I think it does not justify the banning of a whole country. There are definitely many good users who maintain their account with a good ratio irrespective of their ISP's speed. So, it not a good reason to ban the whole country due to some cheater! Also as the main purpose of torrent world is to share then we can spread the sharing not by banning the whole country but by banning the bad users of it.
That was my opinion. What is your opinion?

I dont completely agree with you. I agree that there are many good users from Romania(or any other banned country, for that matter) but in the end, the use of the tracker is a privilege, not a right. If say, 550-60% of all the members from a particular region are generally cheaters, then i think tracker admin are justified in banning the entire country. This would save them lots of time and effort. Though some excellent members might feel hard pressed by such actions, in the end, i think the community on the whole would benefit.

After all, the admin of any tracker always obviously have the best interest of their tracker in mind, and they would take such steps only if necessitated. BitMeTv had previously also warned Romanian members, but apparently, the cheating there seems to have continued forcing them to take drastic measures.

@galaxy : what would you do, if you'd own a very respectable tracker ( such as GFT, ex-SCT, and BitMeTv - and this only in .ro users case ) and you would see that the majority of them ( again .ro users ) are cheating/ trading so on and so forth ? Remember that you have a great tracker, awsome community filled with cheaters ( not all of them ) but still a majority... I am from Ro too, and i blame those meddling kids that push this too far and made it impossible for me to get in one of those trackers, and as i said in other forums areas, i feel sorry for those who already had an account there, but again, i think the staff's decision is a fair one... as scoobydoo said, you , as a user, have a privilege to be a part of ones tracker, and so must obey them rules...you cheat/ trade - ban...

If a majority of the users of a country in a private tracker found to be cheaters then also majority of the users from the same country in other trackers of same type of content must be cheaters as the same people will try to have account in such trackers and so the same country must be banned from other trackers of same type of content. But different tracker bans different countries. As scoobydoo, I am also from India and I saw that HDbits.org banned India but other trackers of HD content(such as HDTorrents; HDbits.ro; Bit-HDTV; SceneHD etc-all are very good trackers) have not banned India.

what you refer to is actually a particular case... just like GFT banned Romania and not other country...in your case, maybe all those other HD trackers don't have the same problem as HDBits.org... maybe users behave on those trackers... it's their tracker, their policy, their rules...i never thought it may be possible but, yes they can ban a whole nation if they want/ have/ need to... anyways, the number of Ro users banned from these trackers will be replaces easily by other nations users...no biggie for the wellbeing of ones tracker

sometimes enough is enough... i think you just get bored of banning one at a time, and get pissed off to see that the majority of cheaters from your tracker come from the same country...so what do you do? you ban them and solve your problem...

I run a gameserver and I know the headaches. We constantly have people from specific countries come in and rage / spam / etc and try to Hack or DoS. It's easier to ban the whole country because we otherwise have to spend time banning uses when we simply could be improving the server or working out new features.

As of now Romania and Ukraine are banned from all our gameservers and vent.

If a good user really wants in, they'll find a way to get in. Nothing is foolproof.

you make it sound so racist... how can a user from a banned country can provide you with proofs that he is one of the good guys? And, mostly, if one gets in, he spreads the word around, and others might get in as well, and you're back where you left of... is either all or none... and maybe after a while might take into consideration unbanning a country...

Even though some of you disagree with Galaxy I can't. Scooby makes a good point If over half are cheaters then something needs to be done but Banning is not the solution. I dont want to complain without a solution either so here is my thoughts on it.

If a banned countries IP is found then perhaps a more intensive look at the user is needed. Maybe the inviter and invitee should be given an interview in irc at the same time. Also users who use trackers have more than one. "I do" And im not hard to find on them. If i cheated i would expect to be banned from all of them "i would ban someone from every tracker i was friends with.

Anyway maybe acceptance isnt strict enough for banned countries. but there are some great users in romainia. i know a few. It just doesnt seem fair to them.
