In a new article on Torrentfreak they talk about the damage big torrents sites / index sites suffered this year. At the end of the article in 'Lessons to be learned and the future of torrent sites' they talk about 'next-generation torrent sites' that already would be in development. Anyone having an idea or some info on what they mean?

Possibly they are talking about torrent sites using magnet links instead of torrent files

Could they be talking about decentralized trackers? Ones that don't require users to be logged or an index of seeders and leechers to be filed but you just connect to a hub, put out a request and see who has what.

Yes, i do believe this is what it is talking about because that is going to be the future for torrents, you will see they will all start having both magnet and torrent links, then torrent links will slowly fade out since magnet links are so much better. That's exactly what they are talking about and it's already implemented. Of course they are talking about public trackers which are behemoths compared to private ones; though size doesn't make quality.

Anyways, TPB has already implemented such a system: they have shut down their tracker permanently and all their torrents rely on DHT. They are also implementing magnet links.

an article on Torrentfreak mentions TorrIndex, that would be the first magnet-only torrent index site. You can visit them at TorrINDex They are still working on some things but it looks pretty good to me! At this moment I am rather busy (in exams). Anyone willing to do some experimenting on the speed/seed differences between torrent and magnet(+torr) ?

There should be no difference between using magnet links and a torrent file. The magnet link simply contains information and allows you to download the torrent file via that, as opposed to directly downloading it

Wow I read that link and it cleared up absolutely nothing - I still don't know why magnet links are supposed to be better

Need help? PM me and I'll find you the answer.
