I would think that if a seedbox provider were busted that the feds would be most interested in pursuing the seebox business owners rather than the subscriber to the service. The analogy here is busting the drug dealer instead of the pot smoker.

The recent takedown of ScT (RIP) saw the runners of the tracker getting arrested but not a lot of details have come out. ScT members haven't been pursued - why would they when the big fish was caught?

Busting end-user torrenters is/was really a scare tactic that hasn't worked. Anti-piracy cops can waste their budgets on this all they want and they'll never make a dent in it. They have to go after the "big fish" or take control of the Internet and filter out the BT protocols if they are ever going to do anything to stop BT/P2P.

I think seedbox business owners are as protected as any ISP or data center would be. You can't hold the landlord accountable for what the renter does.

The "big fish" as you call it are the hardest to go after because they don't actually break the law (ie: the pirate bay) ...Trackers say they're not to blame, because they don't actually host the files... Seedboxes say they're not to blame, because they're leasing their equipment to you.

And if they filtered out all the BT protocols to stop BT/P2P, i'd give it a tops of 3 days before a new one was out that bypassed it... I mean really, they can't even stop one release group from cracking copyright protection on DVD's and Games for more than a few hours... How are they going to stop all of them?

i agree with all the above posts, but like i added in the original post

"my real ip address will never EVER EVER be seen by the anti-p2p companys. I am not saying this is full proof in any regard, you could even combine this with an additional VPN service so that even if the seedbox operators are forced to give up your details (i dont know if this has ever happened or can legally happen or wether any seedbox hosts store any type of user data such as ip's) they will still not be able to provide my real ip."

I completeley agree that with enough time and by harrasing enough people to make thier way through the paper trail to be finally led to your real ip address. Why would they bother when there are so many other fools with no protection. (and payment at my tracker was anonymous, yet again they would need a legal court order to demand my info from paypal which they wont get because the purchase was a perfectly legal purchase.)

    Hence the quote:

You dont have to be the Fastest, you just have to outrun the slowest.

ISP's, Vpn's, and Boxes. They all have one thing in common, your IP address is in the hands of the service provider.
So why is a VPN or Box safer than directly through your ISP?
You're not downloading files from a swarm of people.
The only IP address that our enemies can see is the provider's.
This will make them give up in most cases since its just more hoops to jump through.
They'd have to figure out who the provider is, find a contact # or email, contact them asking who this IP is, probably not get a response back, if they by some miracle get them to send your ip, then they'd need to take your IP address and WHOIS it to find the ISP. They'd then have to contact the ISP asking them to send you a email, which they would probably do but you will likely ignore it anyway.
So THAT is why you're safer.

I hear of this all the time in the news, but never even heard of anyone that knows anyone that received a letter. Maybe thats a good thing..I couldnt really see telcoms caring, they make a killing on a bad year. plus its basically the same equiptment since the 50s in some cases.

oh & thanks for the heads up on the peerblock program, ive only heard of peer guardian but i dont think they are around any longer.
