Me, I think that information should be free, and that we shouldn´t create artificial scarcity just to raise prices.
Also, I don´t like supporting industries that try to take away me freedom and privacy

If more than one applies, indicate strongest motivation

I agree with both of these. Also it is quite nice having movies, albums, games etc before your friends and family

Don't have a lot of money.
Don't approve of the industry as a whole.
    Easy and accessible content.
Not everything can be found in stores, ect.
    Enjoy interacting with communities.

    All kinda reasons.

With my modest 300KB/s download speed, I can get a game quicker and more cheaply than from the store.

    Why do I torrent?

Because I refuse to couple digital media with obsolete packaging and delivery systems. If I want to watch a movie they want me to get dressed, drive to the mall (brave the mall), buy some obsolete plastic, drive home, watch the movie on obsolete hardware, only to find out I don't like it. No thanks. If the copyright holders can't give me what I want, then to hell with them.

The way movies tickets are priced and more than that some softwares are priced. my only reason is to save money. Couldn't care less if I got something after a week of its release or before its release!

It's just more convenient. If I decide I want to watch a movie, I want to watch it now. I live on a college campus and don't have a car, which limits my legal options to:

    1) finding a friend to drive me to the video store and paying $5 to rent a movie, then having to find another friend who's willing to drive me back to the video store to return the damn movie.

    or

    2) Use a service like Netflix that requires me to wait 3 days and walk back and forth from the post office.

It's just stupid. The internet is this huge resource and the availability of online movies for legal purchase or rental is just awful. Even when a movie is available, it's either ridiculously overpriced or terrible quality - or both. The closest I've seen to what I'm looking for is OnDemand services from TV service providers, but even that's mediocre at best. I want to start seeing some online services!

The other major thing I use torrents for is TV shows. Sadly, the major networks think it's a good idea to air all of their best shows at the same time, on the same days, and I can't watch (or record) 3 shows at the same time, so I have to find an alternative. A service like Hulu could be great, but they need to improve the quality of their streams and get rid of the pointless wait times. I'm not going to wait 8 days after the air date to watch my favorite show in a quality that's inferior to the original airing. I'm not stupid.

Piracy is able to provide these things for me. "Legit" purchases are not yet able to do so. When and if they are, I will probably no longer have a need to pirate. Even the movement towards selling MP3 files online has caused me to start purchasing more music and pirate less. Personally, I won't fully switch until they start offering a lossless format and lower the price a bit, but it's a good start.

I'm just asking the content providers to start providing their content in ways that actually make sense for the digital era. If they can't do that, they aren't going to win over my business, period.
