Default How to protect ourselves from getting into troubles

Since Jammie Thomas-Rasset's case, I have been thinking ways to protect ourselves from the big corporates like MPAA, IRAA etc., so we can enjoy our lifestyle without getting fined millions of dollars punishments. I started this thread not to start a fight, or discuss the whole theft issue on moral and/or ethical, the whole idea of this post is to discuss how can we use technology and finical instruments to protect us from getting into troubles.

    Okay, start from me:

    1. Use private trackers could be the first step in the right direction, by no means it is enough.
    2. Use peer guardian, it constantly updates a IP list which contains the addresses used for collecting evidence
    3. DO NOT REPLY TO THE WARNING EMAILS FROM ISP, just ignore them
    4. Consider using a seedbox, VNC in or use webUI, and use FTP to grab the files. This could be the best option at the moment. Moreover, use VPN connections if you can.
    5. When paying for your seedboxes, do not use your credit card, it can be very easily traced back to you. Paypal adds on extra step if they want to investigate but it can be traced back to you as well, it depends on how much efford they will put in to catch individual users. if seedbox vendor accepts western union, it might be the best option.

That's all i can think at the moment, please correct if I am wrong and tell us what you think.

    Cheers

    6. Get a VPN provider that doesn't keep logs. This is the most safe way to go.

I have no idea really, I don't use it myself. I'll edit if something pops up in my mind.

A side note for not pirating:
Took my gf to watch Transformer yesterday, she got her bag stolen, bag + phone + etc is abt 1k, also, have to get locks replaced, security tags disable and new ones programmed, god knows how much that is going to cost me. I guess I have to keep pirating to keep myself out of trouble :(

VPN tunneling, seedbox, private trackers - all these things add a layer of defense.
It really comes down to how persistent the fuckers are.
What we need, is to learn the process.
    Learn how everything works.

For example, they don't come to your residence right?
Im assuming its all done through letters and email.
They wont be able to prove that a single user is at fault.
    Only an IP address.
So you clean up your computer, put everything on an external HD.
What the fuck can they prove?
That an ip address downloaded chunks of a file illegally.
Are they gonna sue the entire family?

Good idea with that list. I just got my first SB the other night. It didn't even occur to me not to pay with credit cards. I use paypal but looks like I'm still vulnerable. O' well. Guess I will just have to turn myself in. Lol. The only thing I can think of to add is not to jump on the new releases of music, games, and cams right away. I personally like to wait until they come out on dvd anyways. I often wondered if they were still watching by then. I'm sure my sb will get a few letters by the end of my first month. Has anyone ever heard of seedboxes canceling clients subscriptions after receiving multiple warnings? I am really interested in gathering as much knowledge about this as possible to avoid any problems down the road.

Well, most seedbox providers operate overseas or have servers located in different countries, it is much harder to get those guys because of jurisdiction reasons. Moreover, most providers are resellers, they setup boxes on the servers of OVH etc. and they ban public trackers, it is much harder to get evidence. I wouldnt worry about them receiving warning letters.
Last but not least, for individual users, it is the uploading that gets you into trouble, since you are 'distributing' copyrighted materials, however, for seedbox, the most they can do it to proof you've downloaded something via ftp/http/https with no uploading at all, then you are not responsible for their 'potential lost of sales'. Also, if they start to monitor ftp/http/https, then they are really fuked, not us. I believe there are more then enough lawyers will sue them (MPAA, IRAA etc. and their agents) for breaching confidentiality/privacy, not for the justice, but for money and publicity.
