So, I've been downloading from torrents for years now, however, I never understood why there are so many private trackers.

I mean sure, some private trackers release files sooner then the public ones, but usually they end up on public trackers anyway.

What am I missing? What makes private trackers so much better then public ones like thepiratebay? Cause what public trackers have as an advantage is the shear number of peers.

Just in terms of music, what.cd and waffles have more music than the public trackers, organised better, in better quality, more information and faster speeds.

This is generally true for most private trackers, also there is less chance of being caught sharing files, and on the whole most private trackers have not been infiltrated by the RIAA.

Public Trackers - Full of fake files, virus/spyware infected crap. Low quality rips done by n00bs with no knowledge of how to encode video. Crappy speeds and slow pre-times.
The only benefit to them is that if you're looking for older stuff then sometimes you can find it on a public tracker.

Private Tracker - If it's a quality one that's run properly, none of the above. All the authorities and govenrments are focused on the massive public sites like TPB, currently they're not interested in small scale private trackers that have only 10,000 members or so. So it's safer and more secure.

If you're happy using public trackers and can see no benefit, why are you here?

Public: fake torrents everywhere, government and copyright holders hire IT firms to monitor public trackers as well, that when you get the ISP warning email. Over leeching, as soon as they finish downloading, they stop uploading. Slow, the speed cannot compare with private trackers. Last but not least, there is no guaranty on the quality.
Private trackers: fast, good quality generally speaking, no or very minimum monitoring, there are always a lot of seeders. If you get on the right tracker, you can find almost everything you want. There are specialized trackers as well, it is very hard to find their contents on public trackers. The downside: some of the trackers are just soo hard to get into.

On public trackers main problem are speeds. Many of peers cut down UL speed and because of this speeds are horrible. Also nobody control h'n'runners. On the other hand public sites are good places for newcomers. They've spent some time there to learn how to use, how the torrent works. After some time there they're ready to join private trackers.

reason #1= you have to deal with viruses ,corrupt files now & then on public trackers .
reason # 2= type of content . there are many rare contents which u can't find on public trackers
reason #3=speed =try downloading any high def above 15 gb rip from any public tracker i am sure it gonna take forever
reason#4= to take full advantage of probably safer torrenting

there were many files i used to download from torrentjunkie and sumotorrent, which used to get stuck at 60-70%, even though there were seeders on the files...
also many a times, the rard files had passwords on them....which you can get after you register on some shitty websites, they force you to register on....
    Waste of fkin time....

Aaah, and the speeds....dont even talk about it...
Lack of security,Feds on your tail, unlike in the case of private trackers...though this is limited to a few countries as of now....
Virues, fake uploads and what not.....gaah! m sick of public trackers now....

I find that downloading at maximum connection speed from a private tracker is well worth spending the extra money in bandwidth costs to have to upload in return.

I can't think of any public tracker I've used that I've enjoyed. TPB is only a rarely-used site for me, and only if it has something I can't find anywhere else.

To me main advantage of private tracker is their high level of organization and order. I don't have to sieve through tens or sometimes hundreds of torrents quite often with no description at all trying to find exactly what i want. On private trackers you find what you need in required format very quickly. Also the uploader usually monitors his torrents and can give you a pretty detailed answer if you want to ask anything.
But i have to admit that there are open trackers with very good level of organization and moderation.
