I was going to suggest downloading it from another tracker possibly where it is freeleech or half the download counts, and then seed it back at the tracker you are lagging at. You can partial seed it back to the tracker your lagging at too, cuz sometimes the peice sizes don't match.
Another option, which has already been suggested as well, is to upload your own content if it's allowed.
Yet another option that is possible is to donate a little amount so your ratio can go up, and download what is seedable.
Good Luck!
Much Thanks to *Fahim* who repped me in.

I haven't read everything in this post, but 2 easy advices:
1. DWL something brand new and popular (random) stuff
2. Host, host, host, host....

I just got a seedbox 2 days ago and my ratio has shot through the roof... I've uploaded like 100gb since then.
I'd just get a seedbox for a month for like 20$. It's cheaper than donating because during that month you can upload a ridiculous amount of GB and it works for all trackers (except elbitz for me, it blocks my seedbox' port). Just download the newest stuff. If something is posted dl it right away, somebody else will for sure and your seedbox will do the rest for you. Seriously it's worth it, I dont have to worry about ratio for a long time now and my seedbox is only 2 days old.

I'm not too sure if this has been mentioned before, but a lot of private trackers have "karma points" where you just get points for seeding even though noone is leeching of you. These karma points can be converted to upload credits

1) Where there is less DL/ul activity, means less seeds/leeches, It's always better to download new torrents after watching full peers list given.
It's not like you directly jump on to new torrents. Keep checking periodically about the activity. Once there are more then 2 leechers you can start downloading the torrent.
But this largely depends upon your speed, if you have good UL speed this is very good thing. If you have lower speeds wait for increment of leeches on particular torrent
2) Other good thing is setting up RSS, On sites like IPT, TL, SCC where there's lots of activity, you will build your ratio very very fast.

I don't know if this was already mentioned but what I usually do is:
Upload new files that will have good acceptance or download from another tracker and seed.

While there are many good posts here with excellent ideas it seems that it might be helpful to condense some of these strategies into a single post that could eventually get moved into the tutorials section?
#1
My first and most important recommendation is to understand what a prospective tracker is like before you create an account there. I can't stress this enough folks, if you're new to the BT community (say less than 1 year) then there are simply some sites that you really should not join until you are more experienced. I can't tell you how many people I've seen blow their memberships at great trackers because they had no idea what they were doing. Please take this recommendation to heart, I promise that you'll be glad you did later on. If it’s acceptable to recommend a great tracker for nOObs I would be happy to do that.
#2
Please get a descent internet connection: I know that money is tight or service options are limited but seriously, if you can't hit an upload of 50kB/s you are very likely going to struggle at least a little; but take heart, if you simply can't do any better there are some options for you to save and maintain your account.
#3
Get Connectable and optimize your client settings for your connection, this is another tutorial in and of itself but yes it does matter so do it!
#4
Donate: I recommend this even if you're able to maintain your ratio without help. These trackers cost money to operate and we should be willing to help out. It doesn't have to be much, some trackers will let you donate as little as $1 and the value that you receive from them is far greater than what you are donating! As stated earlier some trackers even offer special double GB periods per donation, it really does make sense to do this a few times per year. Do not rely on your donation as GB uploaded, this is a false crutch and should be avoided. Donate to help the tracker only, any extra GB added should simply pad your account and not be used for covering your excessive downloading while not sharing.

Do not join a tracker and start snatching torrents as if they won't still be there next month. In all likelihood they will still be there once you’ve built up your upload buffer. Seriously, take a deep breath and refrain from snatching anything on your new tracker for at least a day or three. Instead, use the bookmarks feature if available, this will help you to prioritize the items that you're interested in more appropriately. You'll be surprised at how much difference it can make when you slow down, read the rules and watch the torrents that are new. You can quickly begin to see what categories are the most popular, how quickly the torrents are distributed (from 1 seeder to 30) and roughly how many leechers you can expect on a given category. All of this will help you to make better decisions on what to snatch and what to wait for. In case it wasn’t obvious you want torrents with low seeders and high leechers J

Take advantage of any Free Leech! Even if you don’t want it, worst case scenario is you lose nothing and gain very little but you could gain quite a bit. It may also give you an opportunity to test the waters at no cost to your ratio.

OK, you’ve read the rules; you’ve watched some new torrents and now you feel ready to jump in. Start with (1) small file, even if you have absolutely no interest in it. Part of participating in the Bit Torrent community is, at times, downloading stuff that you will never use or watch, sorry but it’s true. With this in mind please don’t expect to get only what you want you may have to get what other people want in order to get a good number of leechers. Take a few practice runs on some small files one at a time, say some single TV episodes. I think that ½ hour shows to start with and then a few hour long ones will do nicely until you’re comfortable. If your site does not have TV shows then try to find stuff in the 175 to 350 MB range to begin with.
7a.
If you’re internet connection is questionable then download only (1) file at a time and make your active torrents in your settings as (1) this will allow you to focus all available bandwidth on each torrent one at a time. Try not to download anything else until you get the first torrent to a 1:1 ratio. When you split your limited bandwidth of say 25kB/s across three or four torrents you’ll likely fail to hit 1:1 on all three so stay focused on each torrent one at a time until you are 1:1. As you get more experienced you can set your client to allow as many active torrents as works for you. I have mine set at 4 which usually maxes my bandwidth. Sometimes I’ll still drop mine to 1 active in order to focus my bandwidth on the newly downloaded torrent, it just depends on how difficult seeding is for the particular site that the new file came from.

Learn to use any available RSS feeds. This is huge, if there are any episodic programs that you like try setting up an automated download via RSS. Doing this helps to make certain that you’re one of the first leechers on all of the new torrents. The only way to do it faster is to stand watch over the new torrents list and refresh every minute or two, RSS refreshes every 5 minutes so learn to use it!
#9
Leave all torrents seeding 24/7. I know that many are opposed to this but it really pays off! You’d be surprised at how many people are leeching when you’re asleep. I monitor my bandwidth usage and almost none of my upload comes between the hours of 9am and 5pm which used to be the only time I seeded because my computers were on anyway. Leave them on 24/7 and you will have no problems!
#10
Leave torrents seeding for a minimum of 30 days, the larger your seeding footprint the more you will have leechers snatching your torrents. This, in combination with 24/7 seeding, is likely to solve mostly every problem barring a freakishly slow internet connection.
#11
Upload new torrents. If you need this guide than this idea is not for you! Many sites are very strict with uploads also you should have a very good connection for initial seeding which if you’re reading this you probably don’t have L If you’re connection is anything less than stellar you would likely only upload the torrent 1 time and then the guys with seedboxes will have it and completely dominate the uploading of your torrent, this can often be frustrating if you’re unprepared for the reality of it happening.

Cross seeding (I’ve not been a fan of this strategy so if I’ve made a mistake any input is welcomed)
If you’ve noticed that site A is way easier than site B to hit a 1:1 ratio on, then by all means try to cross seed the identicle torrent by downloading from site A then when complete downloading it from B. Be sure to set the download location (in the utorrent screen) for site B to the same download location where you saved the indenticle file from site A.
If the files are identical utorrent should check out to 100% and begin seeding on both trackers with nothing at all having been downloaded from tracker B. My experience with this is that at times the files have been slightly different, maybe changes to the NFO or maybe a renamed folder and so this strategy didn’t work very well for me. That’s ok though because suggestions 1-10 will get you very far by themselves. Please note that it was suggested to use a public tracker as your option for site “A”, this is a huge mistake do not use public trackers, period i.e. Demonoid.

Partial seeding seems to be mentioned a lot in this thread. This is when you download only part of the files included in a new torrent. For example you could click to download and when the utorrent screen comes up uncheck all files except the sample, the NFO and the last file (maybe a little more if you like). This will only be a download of less than 100MB and you could easily hit a ratio of 3 or 4. Please be careful, some trackers have rules against partial seeding so this could land you a swift warning if you don’t read the rules…consider yourself warned!
One final suggestion which could have been included with the top 10 ideas that work particularly well is to seed new porn. IMO this is ethically questionable which is why I chose not to include it with the first 10 suggestions. I don't watch it and would have never even thought to download it until someone suggested that I do it just to build ratio. I did try it for a while and man it is definitely a ratio builder but I decided that it wasn't for me so the ethics delima is up to you.
I hope this helps to make the thread a bit easier for someone.
Thank You Veritas for Repping me into this great community, much appreciated!

I think that partial seeding is really the best way to get started, I have 3 or 4 partial torrents (500-700mb) of big movie packs that I've been seeding for a couple months and they are both up to 130:1 + ratio. Which is a good 1tb between all of them.
