    Default Anti-Piracy Group Infiltrates TorrentLeech.org

A sad news for all those that love private trackers. Just wanted to gives you guys a heads up on something that that is really depressing.

If you thought it was only unsafe to download from public trackers - think again. It’s hardly a shock that anti-piracy groups make it a habit to go after users of public torrents, or even the colossal Demonoid tracker. But piracy watchdog group BayTSP, which in large part represents the MPAA and its subsidiaries, has begun to encroach into the private tracker sector. What was once thought, "it can’t happen on a private site" may soon become the norm, as more and more torrenters make the switch to private trackers. This is the story of TorrentLeech, BayTSP, home PC downloading, and a stern warning from my ISP in regards to sharing the latest "Star Trek XI" film.

I just assume anything that we can get, they can get into as well. It's not like it's that hard to get into private trackers... especially if you pay some desk monkey a salary and ask him to find trackers. I don't worry that TL will get shut down soon or anyone will get harassing anti-piracy letters though... they usually target high profile cases where they can scare the most people. Not many people have heard of TL outside of the torrent world.

Although I agree with everything you said I disagree with TL not been known. TL has never tried to keep it's identity hidden like other private trackers do. Just google torrentleech. It will come up first in the list. Now try the same with other trackers like PtN, ScT, FtN. You get nothing...

What is just as worrisome is that FSF was using Peerguardian when he had the star trek torrent. But it was a popular movie and torrent that was being watched, not every torrent on the site.

He did give some good practical advice in his blog though.
Use a seedbox, and stop torrenting from your home PC. A seedbox is a sure-fire method to keep your real IP address out of the torrent. Fact is, seedbox providers receive these same takedown notices all the time, and it doesn’t overly concern them. It won’t concern you, either.
Use a VPN service to anonymize your traffic. If you must torrent from your home PC (without a third-party seedbox), then use a VPN service to anonymize your torrent traffic. It’s effective and generally more affordable than a seedbox. Some VPNs are specific to P2P/torrent traffic such as TorrentFreedom & Ivacy, or even a SOCKS proxy such as SuperChargeMyTorrent.

This was always going to happen, especially with trackers like TL where alot of users felt it would be wise to sell invites via Ebay and other sites... However, while not the best solution you could always stay away from leaked 0-day movies if you're still on your home connection. This happened with wolveriene at TL as well.
TL has been on a downward spiral for a while now...

I think TL has around 200,000 members. Anti-Piracy groups usually go after sites when they get this big. I would feel much safer using a site with only 3000-5000 members. Although, these groups have enough money and bandwidth to eventually get into any site they want, and we (tracker members) are the ones who will invite them.

Another thing to think about as posted at FSF...

It’s not surprising at all, when you see all these stupid private tracker members giving away invites like cookies even on public tracker invite forums…
We can all thank them if one day trackers like T-L are closed, and if one day you gave away an invite to a total stranger on a public site or even on a private one but without checking on the guy…then you can give yourself a big slap in the face, because it’s your only fault if RIAA and such are in the place, and a big slap or even a good kick in the nuts is all you deserve.

good point bumrocks. someone has to invite them for them to be able to have access, and they probably get invited from signing up at sites like this and posing.
that's why i set requirements for my higher-level giveaways.
