well feds can close each and every hidden tracker if they want to
but it will be a long time when this will really happen
they won't bother a few thousand people pirating around the globe when they can catch millions of people out there on public trackers and file sharing sites
the cost involved in shutting a private tracker is not worth for the anti piracy people
cost-benefit ratio matters a lot here
though i fear what.cd and waffles might be on the hit list as both these sites are greatly damaging music industry economy
plus given their vast userbase doubles the chances of getting closed

If you want to be really secure, use topsites, private ftps and usenet ;) Each http site can be shut down.

They already tried with mininova, tpb, isohunt... that's why mininova had a huge break and had a torrent swept some time ago and why tpb changed to magnet links and closed their tracker back in 2009.
However, makes more sense to go after the big hosting and streaming sites, that's why they won't bother with a 50k people tracker yet. Ultimately, they are after the ones who have pre-released stuff and cracks, aka the scene and the p2p group iMAGiNE (the reason why they went after UTN, a 900 people tracker)

The point is not that a small tracker was targeted because they were too leet but they got busted because some body from inside ratted them.
Also, fxp is an insecure method of spreading releases. They are vulnerable even if one of the racer is compromised. p2p also is very insecure.

IMO every protocol will always have some weakness. The only way security can be guaranteed is by being alert.

My point was, that UTN was the place where a group of pirates was spreading CAMs and audio they made or bought and that by itself made it relevant to authorities, despite the userbase being almost zero. Being ratted or not, the authorities already had their eyes on it for some time and needed just a little push.

    Indeed.

Also, they were notoriously regular in coming out with screeners which could be easily tracked using an unique ID embedded on every print. Dumping them in public domain through an insecure medium like p2p only made the work of FBI much easier.

There have been both private and public trackers shutting down this year. But it's mostly been fear of getting caught than actually being busted then shut down.
