my main source of files are torrents but when i am looking for rare stuff like albums or apps i use usenet and ddl search engines
yes you have to pay a small amount of money but is nothing compare to the many many files you can find on usenet that private trackers don't have
p.s although usenet give you more privacy than any other way to get a file it was as many viruses as ddl sites and public torrent sites
This sounds like you're using a crappy usenet provider that doesn't have a full feed.
Nevertheless, most usenet posts are extended with so called "par" files. These are used to repair partially downloaded or broken files. With the proper tools you can pretty much repair all downloads and extract them correctly.
I mostly use usenet for talk radio mp3s I can't find on any trackers.
I am really confuse here...For movies and stuff Usenet is the best but I wonder with ebooks and music for examples, can Usenet beat Bitme, thePlace or waffles, what.cd???
NO.
Torrents > Usenet for most circumstances
The problem is that in many cases torrents have no seeders so you cannot download them, in that case usenet would be your friend.
So help me understand how does Usenet works.
Say I post a file on giganews, so it will be upload to giganews server, then to another server and another user will download from there...Is that correct?
If a third user from 3rd server want to download, can they discover and download from the 2nd server?
Will the file be retain from all 3 server for 4 years?
Close, servers decide which newsgroups they are going to carry and they then peer with other servers which carry those groups. The server then downloads all the new messages in the groups that they carry. That is why your isp might have a shorter retention, they don't want to dedicate the storage to something that isn't used much.
It is up to the server how long they are going to retain stuff, either by setting a date or dedicating a certain amount of storage and then pruning the old stuff off as new comes in. Commercial providers of usenet are in a 'retention war' trying to have the longest retention available.
With the addition of nzb files usenet got a whole lot eaiser to find stuff, they are like torrent files for usenet. An nzb file is an index of the files that need to be downloaded to get the complete file you want. Much easier than manually looking through hundreds if not thousands of message headers to find the ones you need. Most of the time an nzb file will even include the par files that will repair a damaged file to some extent.
Usenet is my main source of tv shows and movies. I use sabnzbd to download along with sickbeard for tv shows and couchpotato for movies. I supplement with torrents when I can't find something. There have been a couple of new pieces of software I recently started using, headphones and lazylibrarian which are like couchpotato for music and books respectively. I still find that books are more available via torrents than usenet, music has always been readily available via usenet, it is where I have accumulated most of my 70 gigs of music. The larger the file or collection of files needed to get the complete item the more likely it is to have an nzb file, which is why books are harder to find. That being said I just got into ecomics last year and I get almost all of them via usenet. I have a very good usenet reader, Agent from Forte. I have filters set up to automatically grab the comics. I run it about once a week. It works well for comics because they have a set title and come out regularly. I also grab a few magazines this way.
If you have any questions about my set-up just ask.

I use both. I use torrents first but if I can't find what I am looking for I search usenet. I bought 25 GB download for 10 buck from Astraweb. Usenet has some things I haven't been able to find on trackers that I have access to so it is useful to have as a fallback information source. I recommend having access to it if you are interested in acquiring information that otherwise may be unavailable in an electronic format.
I also use both, but I prefer Torrents. More Content, more fun, more community.
Usenet can be useful though for finding very old files, as mentioned above. Also its more secure since nobody ( except the provider of the server of course ) can actually see your ip.
