Thread: What is the difference between private trackers and open trackers?

OK, I sorta got an idea of what the difference is, but correct me if I'm wrong and help me learn more.

1) Private trackers offer better security from being flagged or sent an email by your ISP about Copyright Infringement
2) You seed torrents longer because you have less of a chance getting that email from your ISP about copyright infringement
3) You are part of a community which in return you can interact with each other
4) Certain trackers offer incentives

That's all I can think of. Is there a need to join anymore than 2 or so private trackers or do people just want a huge list? Basically all trackers have the same movies, music, software etc. So my real question is why do you need more than a couple private trackers? Thanks for looking and I look forward to your responses.

Biggest difference? You need an invite to join a private tracker, while you can join an an open (or public) tracker at any time.

And yes, people usually just want a huge list, but 2 private trackers won't really give you all that much. There are a lot of different, specialized private trackers also that have content you can't find anywhere else.

Right, I forgot to mention the Invites(I'll add that.) Ok, so the main difference is that there is content on the other private trackers that others don't have, Right? I guess that would be the most important then, Thank You RedMamba.

Almost everything on private trackers are uploaded onto public trackers ( example: thepiratebay)
Public trackers the chances of getting a virus are pretty high and the download speed may be really slow.

Plus downloading from public trackers you can be tracked by feds more easily.

So is there a private tracker that gets hit first an then the rest of the orivate trackers and then the open trackers? or is it just completely random?

Depends on the popularity of the content. Sometimes it appears only in the private trackers.
Another difference is that the torrents stay alive longer in the private trackers. It's not unusual to see torrents from 3-4 years ago still alive.

It depends on what the file is.

For example : the movie moneyball

Moneyball.2011.BluRay.1080p.x264.DTS-HDChina - this torrent was first upload on HdChina because they were the one who encode it.

Next the user from HDChina who has downloaded movie will upload it anywhere they want to, Other private trackers or public depends on how they want to share it with others.

Some trackers who encode some video will tell the users not to upload this file to other places.

Also what azitox saids private tracker torrents last longer much much longer then the one on public trackers.

Private trackers are about exclusive content you cant find anywhere, fresh releases, great speeds and experienced people to chat. They're more secure and usually free of virus and fake releases.
Public trackers are the opposite. Of course sometimes they are the only way to find some stuff because they have the hugest general content.
