seems you hear alot more people using torrents or the gnutella network getting caught.. i guess if you plan to use torrents... try peerblocker and keep to private sites...

When I think of Usenet, I think of old(er) people. That was the big thing a while ago, it's definitely dropped in popularity and Torrents seem to have taken over as the mass way to download. With the things that I download from my private trackers, I'm not really too worried about safety at this point. I've been downloading torrents since 2000-2001 and my only Cease and Desist was like the first month when I tried downloading a movie a week after release from a public site. I quickly learned the ways of the private torrent world and have been fine ever since. I feel like as long as I moderate the things I download, what, when and where; Then I'll continue to have little chance of getting caught... Although you do find a gem on Usenet every once and a while... I don't think it's got enough material (anymore) to be worth it.

Thanks to Freedom for repping me in.

i think the only ppl who risk something are the tracker owners, not the users !
The users are too many, they are at no risk !

The users do get sued. I read Torrentfreak, and it happens.
I really wish the content on Usenet was better, as you said PChambers. It's safe, it's hella fast, but the content just isn't there. DDL wouldn't be so bad, but JDownloader only lets you use one proxy. If it could auto-download with a seperate proxy for each file, that would be great as most files are split up. Anyone know of a good downloader like that?

Edit: Hmm, actually I think a seedbox is what I was looking for. Private tracker speeds + security of seedbox.
