Thread: My First Blunder, what's yours?

The only blunder i feel sorry about i grabbed all the just ask invites as soon as i was accepted ,the thing is i never used public trackers ,only was in to demonoid for a week and ended up at T-I for invite to Bitme (that time i only knew that this is the best private tracker ,even didn't know that its elearning tracker than)
so i was like wow just ask invite threads



"i want one"

and the pile kept on increasing till i realised that some day all my accounts will die for inactivity except some selective ones
anyways the journey is important not the end
biggest mistake - spent countless hours cross seeding at TL just to cross that shitty new user wait rule,now i barely visit that tracker

I have had the same problem with TL in the early days... (third tracker for me then...) and started seeding from five Greek Internet connections... I made it and I am now still having a hard time with that tracker... I am probably going to stick to IPT more...

FearfulCannon I need some help with the cross-seeding... As I have got a seedbox my self and I want to improve my buffer in TL as much as possible :) if you can help please pm me :)

Hey poniroulis...Cross seeding is not very hard...

1. Download the first torrent and let the download finish.
2. Get the same torrent file rom the 2nd tracker you want to cross-seed to (assuming it's TL)....but make sure you don't start the download.
3. Ensure the second torrent (TL) is being saved in the same directory (destination folder) as the first torrent....still don't start.
4. Right click on the 2nd torrent (TL - should be at 0%)....and then select Force Recheck....this will make it recognise that the file is already there...you will see the % going higher until it gets to 100%....(sometimes may stop a little short in which case you will end up downloading a few extra kilobytes...though it won't work if you are required to wait for download)
5. Hit the start button...if at 100% it'll start seeding...if at 99% it'll download the little extra and then seed.

Well the funniest I've experienced is when I told a friend of mine who was beginning to show interest in BitTorrent trackers and all, to subscribe (note; not register) to a site which would help him in the the whole P2P thing. The next day he was all pissed thinking that I played some joke on him because that site had no torrents at all. My intentions were pure, I did want to help him, although it seems I didn't make myself clear since the site (which he thought was a tracker) was filenetworks..

My personal blunder would be the usual. Joined TL, downloaded too much and ended up getting a seedbox. But since then I usually always have one

TL seems to be a popular screwup...I got myself a seedbox and signed into my fresh TL account with a list of some stuff the SO wanted. DOH! Those 48 hour waits...and then I learned what slots were and that I had already filled mine with unpopular PC-iso files. Within an hour of activating my account, I got a warning. They must run into that all the time there. I signed out in panic, and when I signed in again, my ratio was miraculously fixed, evidently by an admin angel I never got the chance to thank. With my seedbox I keep lots of files seeded all the time at TL and have about a 500GB buffer now. But that initial 48 hr wait/3 slot limit nearly killed me.

I still haven't figured Waffles out. Next time I go on a music-binge I guess I'll take some time to learn how to seed enough there so I can actually download something worthwhile.

It does become something of a game. Even my husband tells me when new games are set to release so I can snatch them to seed!

Well there are two. When I first began using torrents, back in 2005, I got on a private tracker just when it was starting through some process I don't remember. I downloaded one thing and one thing only. A half hour TV show. When that was done, I kept it seeding for a few days, but it didn't upload anything at all. At that point, there were something like 2000 seeders and about 100 leechers (if memory serves). So I killed the upload. Got banned almost immediately. I have absolutely no idea what the tracker was. It was very long ago and I was 100% noob.

My other blunder is apparently that I've been a steady uploader on all public trackers for the last 6 years. Which I'm told is quite dangerous.

That's why I'm here. Learning the private tracker ropes.

I would say I am in the same boat with the public trackers. I was using them for years but never knew the risks. I always believed PeerBlock was a magic application that protected me which I realized isn't true at all. I recently upgraded my ISP to FiOS and I get 30/30 so I have a reason to seed now. I was on ratiowatch in What.cd then when I upgraded, I am doing pretty well now. I just want a couple of good private trackers and keep seeding them with little risk.

My first blunder would probably be using movietorrentz. I just kept downloading without regarding my ratio and was banned in a few days. This was about 4 years ago though and I am more aware now. I actually plan to be a Power user in some sites soon.

Yeah, I am a PU in only 2 sites, but working my way up. I had never used public trackers, it was like my first experience was IPT which was easy to handle and then the big TL. It seems TL is famous for introducing people to seedboxes, haha.

I downloaded 25 gb files that had 100 leechers but they were all part-leechers

I ended up cross-seeding :)

I think of all the invites I have to give out, I would probably choose not to give out any to TL, not only do they not have anything more than any other tracker, but they have a failed bonus system, no freeleech, and even gaining in the ranks seems rather boring. I am glad I have an account there, but it seems almost a certain rick to give anyone who is not very familiar and responsible with torrenting an invite.
