A brief explanation here on the warez wiki page.

Warez scene - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To be an uploader to a torrent site has little to do with The Scene as they (supposedly) do not want their releases on p2p filesharing sites.

Sources for release groups are typically self-volunteered, but have been known to be cultivated as well. They include leaks from software companies, outside testers, reviewers, manufacturing concerns, distributors and retailers e.g. leaking prior to an official release/sale date for the latter.

Thats true TheLaughingMan, but I actually find it the other way with games that is. One of my big loves..
I remember hearing about a copy of GT5 being around a couple of weeks before it was uploaded publicly.
but normally the wait time isnt that much. A day or so before you can find it on usenet.

In regards to your question - most of the time, they have access to someone who has a fast connection and can upload the game/app to their +MBbit servers and then it needs to be adapted for "scene rules" before releasing.

The ones that come out really quickly are probably review/PR copies. (Sorry still talking about games .. haha thats all I know)
