If I really have to free up some space, I delete those torrents with more than 100 seeds
i seed until i reached the requirements of the tracker
I generally seed to a ratio of 2 or 3. During TV season (i.e. now), i generally seed til the next episode comes out which puts me at a 4 or higher depending on the site. Harder to find or underseeded stuff I might leave seeding for months or more, or until i need more room in my hdd (until i upgrade pc at tax time im stuck with a 250gb hdd). I will also leave something seeding for a longtime if it is very useful to people, like AV's and the such.
I seed until I delete which is normally months after.
I seed according to the rules of each tracker I am using regardless of ratio. Once I've hit the time required I then remove the torrents regardless of space issues or not. Now if a torrent has reached the time limit and is still seeding well then I keep it going until it's no longer being leeched from me.
It's rare for the most part but it happens. Just got rid of a 97GB pack today that I seeded for double the amount of time required because it was being leeched. And speed doesn't matter if someone is wanting the file then I keep seeding it til it's done for them as was the case today I was only getting 15kb/s in upload due to other people seeding it but I let it run til the user got the file.
Oh and on popular torrents if I don't need the buffer I will reduce my upload speed once I've hit a 1:1 to allow other seeders to get some upload out of it.
