Seems to me that there are tons and tons of trackers available for almost anything that you could want nowadays. Even on the tracker review section here on the forum there are pages upon pages of places, with each page having 10+ tracker names. And these don't constitute every tracker there is.

I'm a little surprised that there are so many out there. Site owners' security is one big reason. There is an amount of risk that they are taking. Another is that it takes a long term user base to stay around. Torrents need sharers.

I'm happy that there are so many, I just didn't really expect it.

I just knew about demonoid for the record before I joined this site lol so yeah I became quite surprised to see the existence of so many trackers, but I guess it should be expected as many people have different preferences and they won't be pleased with just a few trackers. Personally I'm glad there's so many out there, but so many of them are pretty mediocre which makes me question why they're still around. Nonetheless with so many around there should be plenty of alternatives for any user regardless of what they like which is really good.

The cacophony of trackers is amazing. From no trackers at all only 10 years ago to hundreds upon hundreds of them today.
I too only had a vague idea that there were a some private trackers in the cloud, notably demonoid (which is really "semi-private"). Then found T-I with a Google search and gained a better appreciation of how many private trackers there actually are and the swath that they cut.

Depending on what you are looking for, one or two trackers may more than fill your needs. And there are quite a few general trackers to choose from. I am often looking for esoteric things and like to have a tracker or two in each 'category' that interests me. So I've joined a number of specialized trackers. And every time that I think I've heard about all of the major trackers.. I read about several more that I wasn't even aware of. Like mushrooms, new ones are popping up every day. ..:)

Not surprised that there are many, but yeah, a little surprised that there are as many as there are by now.
But when you start thinking that every country would have its own tracker, or one tracker per every language on earth you could already count up to a couple of hundreds.
The fact that there are so many trackers is good for a couple of reasons, especially private trackers benefit from it.
    1. It's no use for anti-piracy groups to go after a single private tracker, the process will take months and you'll have 10+ new trackers waiting once the case is over. (I'm probably underestimating).
    2. The variety, there are trackers for basically every possible category that you can think of. Big general trackers are all around okay, but they fail to provide good speeds, quality and a comprehensive library of torrents at the same time.
    3. The communities are generally small, (you're most likely not member of like 1000+ trackers), this means that the anti-piracy groups will rather go after huge public torrent sites than in comparison small private sites with a limited user base.
    4. The overall number of trackers shows how tightly together we pirates play the game, anti-piracy groups with a few paid workers won't be able to beat millions and millions of torrent users. Should a private tracker go down, there will always be a replacement, and there will be more.

It's understandable how someone new would be overwhelmed by our awesome tracker Reviews area. My advice to anyone new would be to read as much as you can here at T-I, bookmark or subscribe to threads that interest you and absorb as much input from our members before you go invite application crazy in the giveaway section. Don't race to collect as many trackers as you can. Trust me, those trackers aren't going away anytime soon. And instead take advantage of open sign-ups posted in the Open Trackers section. Pay particular attention to threads that seem be a hot topic. Pages upon pages of replies from our members versus a few spam posts in a thread is a pretty good measure of a hot topic or tracker and will help you sort out the trackers that are really worth chasing down.

I'm not surprised that there are so many. People seem to like to start their own venture rather than contribute to something else - that's true for everything - forums, trackers, blogs, etc.

I like niche trackers, and I think there's a place for highly specialist ones. I'm not sure about general ones, though - I think that they're watering down the community a bit.

Yes . I am a little surprised at the number of trackers there are but I dont fell the need to be in all trackers . I simply read reviews and look around for trackers that will be useful for me . Why waste someones invite if you wont be using it ?

So , There may be many trackers but one needs to realise which ones are good for him.

Surprised by the numbers there are? Nah not really. The tracker boom around 2 years ago I guess was extremely unorthodox for the private bittorrent community but I guess since I came up in those days I'm not surprised by it.

Surprised by the number of good trackers? Yes. The quality that has panned out after the l33t competition 2 years ago really has surprised me. Back then it was all about pre-times and bragging rights. Nowadays nobody is really fighting to compare the trackers and they're just accepting what they have. The amount of knowledgeable people in the respective fields is amazing. HD trackers keep getting better and better. Nobody is trying to replace SCT anymore (which I'm glad to see) so the Scene trackers are starting to die down. The movie tracker boom has fallen off as well. All of these things for the better though & I'm glad to say I'm a part of this community due to the maturity that has been gained...

What surprises me is the fact that not more people know about private trackers. A lot of my classmates or friends say they torrent a lot yet they have never used the likes of IPT or even heard of BTN. What E**** is to us is Demonoid is to them. Crazy. Anyways, back on point, sure there are plenty of private trackers but do they all have a good ratio of seeds to leechers? Do they have good servers or fast speeds? Probably not. The ones that stand out are the ones that most people on here seek or are already using.
