    Default Mac Torrent Clients

    Hey all
Back from a long hiatus, and have fired up my computer.... only to realize that all of my other info was all based on windows..... Hmmmmmm
So I scouted around this site, and the last update on a mac torrent cliet was from April 2010... and it was Transmission...
So is this still the app to use? or are there other varities that are 'better'?
    Cheers

    dumhic

I used to run Azureus (Vuze) when I migrated from PC to Mac since that's what I used on my PC. But now I think it has gotten to clunky and full of non-essential stuff. Transmission does what it needs to and I've never had any problems with it.

Yeah, it's very similar to its PC version, in a sense that it's extremely light and does what it's intended to do. If you liked it on your PC, it's available for Mac if you want to stick with it. I've always found Azureus to be too bulky and too slow. If you're happy with Transmission though, I don't see why you have to make a change. But uTorrent is out there incase you want to make the switch. I've never been disappointed to be honest. :)

I've used all of the above and have settled with Utorrent. I find it has the right mix of options without being too light or bloated with unnecessary addons.

I found transmission would report incorrect stats to my trackers so I switched to uTorrent. Worked well and have stuck with it ever since.

Last time I checked (3-4 months ago) uTorrent on OSX was pretty bad. It was very far behind the Windows version in terms of features so I naturally went with Transmission. I've had some issues with torrents returning errors and stopping the seeding to some trackers but generally I can wholeheartedly recommend this client to every Mac user. It's worth trying out even if only for it's organizational capabilities. You can create different groups (labels) with default download folders and this makes downloading particular files that you download a lot a real breeze. Also, you can tweak the resource allocation to different torrents or group of torrents pretty much like you like. A pretty nice feature I use a lot is the button to quickly decrease the speed to a particular value you have set up in order to give you more resources for any other needs. I guess I won't be needing this feature much more when I set up my seedbox over the weekend.

Like Lateral said, Transmission is a highly developed client, has some nice customization options and even tells you how long you spent leeching and seeding, respectively. uTorrent has a lot more stats, however, and is more widely recognized. They just released an update to bring it closer to the functionality and feature set of the windows version. However, like IRC and Usenet clients, Mac programs lag behind Windows offerings; the best solution is running a Linux/shell client like rtorrent or deluge.
