Ok but then nobody would bother paying to have a seedbox anymore as there would be no point.

Lols it might just be me with the guilt trip then! It differs between trackers but I can give some examples in my case...

On one particular tracker I have a double-figures ratio, minimum seed time is 72h and I stop the torrent at that point, I do not need a buffer any bigger than the one I have already and I figure stopping at the 72h minimum gives other tracker members the chance to seed and get a perhaps much needed ratio boost.

Another tracker offers golden/free leech torrents but stipulates that they must only be seeded upto 1:1, anything more and the tracker stops your upload - the argument being that they do not want the golden/free leech torrents they offer to be abused by seedbox owners hence the upload cap (for all, not just those who use a seedbox) their ideal being that golden/free leech torrents should be used by low ratio members to improve it.

^ I've not encountered any other trackers that do such a seeding cap?

My gripe about this cap is because there are a lot of unique things on the tracker (older, close to death, one seed torrents) that I would like to snatch (and subsequently seed) but my ratio is less than 2 and snatching a handful of these would put my ratio to less than one with little hope of redemption via the seeding the old torrents.

I think the issues raised is the disparity between seedbox users, and home users with relatively low speeds.

If you look at how a lot of trackers, have on a per torrent basis a seeding requirement of 1:1 or 48 hours, this will vary some what between trackers. This works fine it allows for slower connections, to seed for 48 hours if they are unable to hit the 1:1 ratio. However the same sites may have minimum overall ratio requirements, such as 0.8 for example. This can present an issue for users with slow connections, and also, for gaining promotion, with requirements such as must have downloaded 250GB and have an overall ratio of 1.05 or above, will be demoted if ratio falls below 0.95.

Some trackers try to balance this with freeleech and/or bonus point systems.

How about a change in requirements to look something like this:
Must maintain an overall ratio of 0.8, or average seeding time of 48 hours
Promotion to power user - must have downloded 250GB and have an overall ratio of 1.05, or average seeding time of 1 week.
Promotion to Elite user - must have downloaded 500GB and have an overall ratio of 2 or average seeding time of 2 week
    etc.

I think this can balance out well. Home users can often seed for far longer as they tend to have a lot more hdd space than seedboxes. You can do away with freeleech and bonus point systems

You can never ratio whore enough, although i would like it if they seeded for longer.
I use to upload loads and now i have a nice buffer which i can leech off and having these gbit boxes seed to me is great.

unless a torrent is like over a year old, on decent trackers, you usually notice there are a few kind users who have archived these torrents on their seedboxes so you get good speeds.

About people moaning they are unable to seed, you really only need like a £10-20 seedbox for one month which i'm sure 99% of people can afford but just don't want to get. The other option is get a TL VIP membership :)

Basically, ratiowhoring is fine and if your struggling, get a seedbox, donate or use a ratioless tracker :)
If not, there are always other means of downloading.

    - On most ratio trackers if I use them "normally" (download whatever I want whenever I want) I slowly get behind the curve and go under 1.0.
    - On most ratioless trackers I maintain 1.0 effortlessly.
    Its funny how that works.

I confess: I am a buffer whore. I like to build and maintain a sizable buffer. Getting below 1.0 or being demoted is the worst feeling in the world. I seem to always download unpopular torrents that cause me to bleed ratio. I guess its my taste.... or the fact that anything over a day old is typically impossible to seed to 1.0 regardless of seed time. Sometimes you cant find good (wanted) material to upload. This varies from tracker to tracker, however. When I start on a tracker I get to work with my seedbox and try to make a big buffer. This is so I can later use the tracker "normally" without worry.

Anyway... you won't be complaining about my whoring when I am saturating your connection and a few others with my seedbox while you are trying to snatch a 67gb pack of Jimmy Stewart movies...

oh wait... 1 week seed time and 0.00b uploaded.... no one else wanted those except me...

    my ratio!!!!

Goal? Atleast 10 TB on each tracker. Yeah! Until then, whore all you can.

No, but seriously, people shouldn't complain about other users stealing the majority of the peers within a swarm. If you can't handle it, find a tracker that benefits you. Ratioless. Go ratioless!

The only other tracker I know that has a maximum cap on upload is Pedro's. Best not to go over a ratio of 3:1.
