Thread: What do people really think of FTN?

I had a friend who told me how good FTN really was, and that it really was worth the stress to get an invite. But I often read negative comments about the tracker, and people said it was poor, and the only reason people wanted it, was because it was so hard to get. But i got myself an invite anyways, and i absolutely love the tracker, and it has become my most used tracker, over IPT.



So what I am asking is: What do the actual members of FTN think of it? Non-members are not allowed to post or vote.

Tracker have 22596 alive Scene torrents. (and 30306 dead torrents no seeders) There is 1216 alive Packs. Pre is not the best but it's good. Torrents are uploaded with seedbox so the speeds are good when the torrents are new. Like you see there is a lot of dead torrents because of low userbase and ratio rules (min 48h seed time even it's not said in rules "Seed every torrent back to 1:1 ratio or at least try to do so. You are not forced to seed the torrent 1:1, but you're expected to seed for as long as possible."). Community is good and users are friendly. Tracker is more secure than others because it have a small number of users. In the end it's just a Scene only tracker (if you love scene than you will like the tracker) with some nice users and fast speed. People don't want it because of the content they what it just because the can't have it. If you want scene torrents than go on SCC. They have best pretimes and best speeds and best scene content. FTN it's just rare ratio free scene tracker nothing more. It's ok tracker but not best out there

FTN is an average everyday run of the mill tracker I have got a few better trackers I mean it is okay but not superb

even though i'm a member of ftn, i can honestly say that i never use the site. i find that ipt is much better for content, and i don't think that ftn's community is that great.

the pretimes are good, but they're not important to me at all, and i find all the packs are available from ipt anyway. the main positive thing i would say is that there are a lot of dedicated members (possibly with far too much money on their hands!) who are extremely generous with their donations to ftn, as well as paying out for seedboxes/servers every month.

personally, i don't have the time to get involved with more than one or two tracker communities, and i feel ftn falls way behind fsc and some of the niche trackers for community, and falls behind scc, ipt, tl and some other general trackers for content.

I wanted FTN so I could be awesome. Now that I have it - I am that much awesomer~!

No really, you need to define what type of torrenter you are and why you wanted the tracker in the first place. I wasn't interested in the community. My main concerns were pretimes, speed, and content. At the time, I only wanted FTN because I figure the pre's were predominant over other trackers which can contribute to boosting my ratio with the use of cross-seeding and uploading new torrents. I was obviously incorrect as I found out FTN had slower pre's than the other scene trackers I frequent. As you've guessed, I used to be a complete ratio whore, but that have since changed; the majority of my torrenting activities are now only consistent on BTN, HD-T, and BG.

I honestly have no use for the tracker. None of the content I download from there end up on my home PC. I only maintain the account to appease my inviter and to become FTN CHAMPION!

Well I for one like it a lot. It dosen't have the most content but if that's what you wanted you could just stay on IPT or TL and be just fine. FTN is a really good and stable scene tracker that has a devoted community which will keep it afloat for a long time. This is a huge positive because when trackers seem to be disappearing all the time it is nice to have a tracker that you know will not be going anywhere.

I never requested this tracker, nor planned to pursue an invite, but a friend of mine offered me an invite, i thought "Why the hell not?" and accepted it thinking it would be a place for me to get some torrents i couldn't find at other ratioless trackers. Boy, i was wrong.
I really don't give a damn for pretimes as long as it isn't something like four days of delay, and i value the tracker's esthetics, a better looking one will have my preference. Content wise, FTN isn't as good as other tracker's mentioned in posts above, but my country is banned from SCC, I'm not at IPT, and i think that GFT' site is ugly and one of his SySops is, to say the least, a dick. That leaves me with TL, wich is ratio. I do snatch a lot of packs (and actually use what is inside).
Community was a big let down, i thought that they would be A LOT better, their forums are almost dead, comparing with other trackers i'm active at that have a lot of lively threads. IRC is fine, the people there are friendly and Brandon is very nice. Strong points i would say that the people there dedicate a lot to the tracker, be it traffic or money, almost everyone i see has a donor star. This makes the site a lot more reliable, i don't see it going down in the near future. That being said, FTN's activity isn't as nearly as a big site like What.cd in example, wich seems to be a rule for smaller trackers so far, i can't say anything about FSC, but i hear a lot that they are very active, something i doubt, considering that userbase size is a crucial matter for activity.
I would say that pursuing an invite don't worth it, and putting "FTN" and "dream" in the same sentence is pitifull, but if you are offered an invite, there is no reason to deny it.

An average tracker IMO, community was a big let down, but i still use it a lot and saying it is bad is being unfair.

I'm also a member of FTN. For short, I don't think FTN worth the hype about it.
I'm a producer, a student, and a guy who loves to watch TV shows and movies. Good trackers with me must have good sections of VST plugin and instrument, e-learning materials, mainstream TV shows and movies and house music (I produce house). So, there are some trackers that really worth for me, they are TL, IPT, BTN, BitMe, AudioNews, PAT and TT. They are "not so 1337" trackers (except TT) and they provide everything and anything that I need until now. And FTN seems to fail to satisfy my piracy need.
In FTN requests, I often see users mention community are one of the main reason they join FTN. My god, a lot of guys got in there and never post a single post in their forum, and they use IRC only to grab stuff faster, not to chat. In FTN, as I mentioned in a previous post in T-I, most of the post in forum are in the "chit chat" section/thread. The trackers have best community I ever seen in a torrent tracker are MyAnonamouse for their friendly staffs and users (I really love this tracker - warm community and nice content) and BTN for funny heads in IRC.
About pre-times, speed, SCC owns. And if you want rare contents, better try a specialized trackers for these stuffs.

I am a member there, and I think its okay: not poor, but not the best i tracker i have.
