Default HOW TO BURN .avi to dvd

How to convert AVI’s to DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 with DivX Authoring.

    By dazza1227

yea, this seems to be a hot topic going around so i thought i'd show you how i do my DVD's and ISO images.

First you need to acquire the Program (herein referred to as TMPGEnc, because I’m not saying ‘TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 with DivX Authoring’ 100 times in this tutorial) You can find it on any major torrent search engine, or at the bottom of this post. Second, you’ll need the avi file(s) you want to burn, if your movie is in two halves, that’s ok, TMPGEnc will merge them for you. Now let me just say this. If you don’t know how to download the movie you want then you probably don’t have enough knowlage to burn it to a DVD, so don’t try. From this point out I’ll assume a few things:

    1) You have the avi files you want to burn
    2) You’ve successfully installed TMPGEnc
    3) You have a DVD burner
    4) You know wether you need to burn in NTSC or PAL
    5) You have NOT been nominated for a Darwin Award

Now, at the start screen where it says output format, change it to DVD-Video NTSC or DVD-Video PAL depending on where you are then click on “Start a new project”

Next, we need to add the avi files you want to burn click on ‘Add file’ then navigate to the avi you want. For this example we’ll be burning Live Free or Die Hard. click on the avi file (or if it’s multiple files, the first file of the set) and then click ‘open’.

Give it a second then the ‘Clip addition’ window will pop up. Here you can crop off the beginning/end if you need to by clicking the Cut-edit button up top, but you can play around with that later if you like. Leave everything alone here and just click ‘OK’

Now if you like you can add custom chapters to the file, click on edit, use the tools to find where in the file you’d like a chapter, then click on the button that looks like a flag. After you’re all done click on ‘OK’ to return to the source window.

After adding all of your files you may want to play with the settings a bit. On the left side of the screen click on ‘Settings’ for Track 1. I suggest changing ‘Clip Linking” to Link clips for a smooth play back. Any other settings mess around at your own risk.

After all of your clips are added click on the ‘Menu’ button up top (next to Source and Simulation’) if you want to have a fancy menu with a custom background and chapter selection you can mess around here, the possibilities are too big so I’m just going to assume you want to watch the movie so we’re going to select ‘No menu’ from the options and click ‘Next…’

Here you can choose ‘Play all tracks’ and ‘Play next track’ for the two menu settings. When you’re done click on ‘OK’

If you added Chapters and a menu you can click on the “Simulation” page to make sure they came out like you wanted, when you’re done click on ‘Output’.

Change the output folder name to something you can remember. Then select ‘Single layer DVD media (4.7 GB) size. Check the ‘Write to the media disk after output completion’ box, then click on the CD/DVD writer settings button. Select your DVD burner and set the speed to maximum. After everything is ready go ahead and click on ‘Start Output’ and wait for it to complete. Then follow the instructions on how to burn the files.

There you go, you have a working DVD with the movie you want

Sometimes it doesn’t work for you. The most common problems are…

    1) you’re computer is a bit too slow. Try turning down the speed to the MINIMUM in the CD/DVD writer settings (don’t choose something in the middle, go max or min. middle has the most chance of messing up)
    2) The media you’re using is not compatable with your player, DVD+/-R/W (DL)
    3) Bad source file, make sure you’ve watched the WHOLE file on your computer WITHOUT flaws

Hey dazza, very informative. Good job. Can I ask you a question? How long does it take to transcode a regular .avi file to a .dvd? Let's just say using a regular dual core processor with 2GB of ram?

Easy for beginners? O_o I haven't tried either of them but convertxtodvd seems easier to me. Also it doesn't look like you have written these tutorials yourself, so could you please include sources with all of your tutorials?

Than explain this: How does it come that both your taskbars are completely different. And 'you' are using and different virus scan on your different tutorials.
Also there seem to be some things that came with the copy paste job from wherever you took it.
