Default How to re-encode a blu-ray to mkv

This tutorial will cover an easy method to re-encode bul-ray's into mkv's (with h.264 video and AC3 or DTS audio). The output can be in any resolution you want (1080p, 720p, etc). Encode times can be as little as a few hours if you have a fast quad core box , or days on an older box ... Lets get started.

    Tools you will need:

    AnyDVD HD (Download)
-Download the trial from their website, or find a cracked version from the usual places.
    RipBot264 (Download)
-it also has some dependences that it will prompt you to install if you don't have them already.

    Steps:

    1. Install everything

    2. Insert disk or mount iso of blu-ray and ensure everything is working. Left click on the anydvd icon in the task bar and confirm that all the protections are removed:

    3. Fire up RipBot264 and click add.

This will open the Encode Settings window. First thing you need to do is load the movie, click on the "..." button next to the video blank. Now the only semi "hard" task... Navigate to (insert your drive letter):\BDMV\STREAM and select the largest (should be 20GB+) file and click open.

The Select Streams window will pop up now but you will have to wait for it to finish analyzing before you can do anything, it should look like below when done.

All the default stream selections should be good so just hit OK.

    4. Wait... This could take an hour or so (it is demuxing the needed streams to your hard drive). When done you have to select .mkv as the output container.

At this point we need to make some changes to the encode settings. Fist switch to a 2-pass encode.

And select an approprate bitrate (for 1080p I would suggest 6144 or 8192 Kb/s).

Were almost done.. we just need to crop it, click properties to get this window.

Change the crop option to automatic, wait for it to determine the right numbers. This is also the window where you can choose to resize the output to 720p. Click OK.

    5. Now would be a great time to change the output directory so something that makes sense so you don't have to hunt it down later...

    6. Now we can begin encoding. Hit done in the encoding settings window and hit start in the main window.

    7. Wait for finished product and enjoy. Like I said this part could take a long time depending on how fast your computer is.

Let me know if you have any questions or if I left anything out.

If you liked this tutorial thanks/rep would be nice.

Yea screen shots are a PITA but at least M$ Paint is a bit nicer in Windows 7 (easy cropping). Thanks for the rep.
