Default Watching Blu-rays on PS3, With Sound!

Hey guys, Im gonna attempt to explain how to watch Blu-rays on your ps3 through an external drive!
Part two of this watching with video is located here Watching Blu-rays on PS3, With Video!

First off, Ive been getting some Blu-ray movies and transferring them on my hard drive. But when I connect my external hdd to my ps3 the quality of the video is great but there is no sound! I have heard if you fiddle with the audio settings on the ps3 there is a way to get sound, though personally I havent found it.

The problem is the ps3 doesnt read the audio codec in blu-ray films. The ausio codec is call Dts. So in order to hear audio were gonna have to convert it into a readable codec. Personally I use Ac3 which doesnt lose any quality and works.

Ok so step one is to download tsMuxerGUI which can be found here

Download Transport Stream muxer (tsMuxeR) 1.10.1 Beta / 1.9.9 - tsMuxeR - can mux pretty much anything into a regular transport stream and now even Blu-ray's M2TS - Softpedia

    Open TsMuxerGUI.exe

After you have extracted all the files from WinRAR to a folder, run the TsMuxerGUI.exe file. This program is not very complicated at all but what it achieves is ground breaking for PS3 .This process used to take quite a while, but TsMuxer automates nearly the entire process now.

Anyway, let's get on with it. Make sure you are in the Input tab. Look at the blank Input files field, click the Add button beside this.

    Open TS file

Browse through your Hard Disk Drive for the folder that contains the any video file, usually mkv are the files that blu-rays are in. Double-click it when you find it.

TsMuxer will now take a moment to analyze the file before it shows you any streams.

    Check Stream Information

If the TS file was opened successfully, you should now be able to see the type of streams that you have in it. In mine, I have H.264 / AVC video (1920 x 1080) running at 25.00fps and AC3 6CH audio, very nice.

Though some people will see Dts instead of Ac3. Below is the screen your looking for. So at this point you need to demux the Dts audio file. So uncheck the video file which is the first one on the top, and leave the 2nd Dts file checked. At the bottm of the program you will see 4 options you can click on, make sure you select demux which means extract, then save it where you want.

K so after all of that, you now need to covert that dts file into ac3, but you need a new program for that which is called MeGui which can be found here MeGUI | Software - (DivX/XviD) Digital Digest

Ok so once you download that, it will ask you to update click yes, personally I updated every codec so I dont run into problems afterwards.
Just follow this to guide to set it up, PS3 H.264 Conversion Guide | Articles - Digital Digest

Ok so once everything is setup you need to add in the audio dts file. On the main screen you will see this

on the right of audio click those 3... thats where you input or audio, the output is where you save it. Where it says audio profile click the arrow and select Aften Ac3 * scrachpad* then hit config. Make sure apply dymanic rate compression and normalize peaks are checked, and where it says bitrate click that and put 448 kbps which is better and the ps3 can still read (this is in the cinfig button screen that will pop up), click ok, then it will bring you back into the pic above view.

Hit enqueue, and at the top of the pic above (its cut off) but you will see a Queue tab click that, and it wil bring you here pic below.

So once here click start on the bottom left side, Now this procees is funny sometimes where it looks like it freezes but really it didnt so just be patient,
I dont make my comp go to sleep or shutdown or hybernate, because that might ruin the process.

After all that its still not over yet, *yawn lol ok but now you need to reopen tsMuxerGIU and add the video file again, then add the new ac3 file.
So again you need to uncheck the dts file and check the ac3 file. All the other things are subtitles so you can uncheck em if you want. Once that is done you need to click M2TS muxing opton, which is beside the demux option we choose earlier. I have a fat32 hdd so i hit the split/cut tab at the top and I split every 4gigs so it can be transfered to the hard drive.
M2TS if a file ext which can be read by the ps3 it is not converting so you dont lose quaillity.

So it will create these new files and boom done.

oh and if you go into settings in the ps3 then video settings, at the bottom youll see sequential playback make sure thats its on yes, that basically plays all the files so it wont stop, youll notice it when it changes to the other file but its very minor!

    enjoy the movie!!!

No problems guys, I was messing around for about a month trying to figure it out. All the guides out there are really outdated, and the programs they use as well, so the settings changed etc.. Figured it will save someone else some time.

You are also able to do this through the media server outlet if you have a wireless network running. With your permission Chunky, I would like to do a tutorial in here on it. Keeps it together.

Duuuuuuude! Please tell me this works...If so i thank you many times over! I have tried other "walk-through" guides to no avail!

I cant wait to give this one a go...i really want to pull this off, 30-40 bucks for a blue-ray disc is bankrupting me! They are so addicting though

yeah it works with tx_muxer or you can get a nice little prog called "ps3 media server" (google it) and play any file format (mkv, avi, etc...) file straight without burning or all the hassle of converting.

Really? Is this through a hard drive or streaming?
After searching Im pretty sure its for streaming only, if im wrong by all means let me know. Personally for me streaming makes the video choppy and pauses here and there which is annoying, that why I choose the method above, but thanks ethicks for the program maybe be usefull for some.
