Default Hardcode subtitles in a .avi file

Hi everyone, this is my first tutorial on this website, and I hope it will be usefull for you.

    1. Intro
This tutorial is going to describe you how you can hardcode subtitles in your .avi video's.
Now, your first question might be: 'Why the hell would I do that?'. Well firstly, there are a lot of devices (I am thinking of Iphone, Mobiles, Playstation 3) who do not support subtitles in an external .srt file. With the subtitles hardcoded, you will be able to view your subtitles on every medium that supports .avi files.

    That's reason enough I suppose :)

For this tutorial we are using a free and easy-to-use program, AVI ReComp.

    2. Downloading and installing
You can download AVI ReComp here. The installation is easy, just follow the given instructions from the installer

    3. Using AVI ReComp
After you have succesfully installed it, open AVI ReComp. You should get this:

Click on the 'Open AVI' button to search for the video you want to add subtitles to.
Click on the 'Save AVI' button to set a location for the video with added subtitles.
If I want for example, to add subtitles to my video 'Killstreak: The Movie' my window would look like this:

Now, go to the additions tab, enable the subtitles by clicking on the checkbox. And click on the 'Load Subtitles' button to browse for the subtitles file you want to add to your movie.

The last step is easy: go to the 'Queue' tab, and click on the 'Add to queue' button.
If you want to do different movies at the same time, you can just repeat the previous steps and add them all to the queue.

If you are ready to start, press the 'start' button, and let your computer do it's work :)
Note: this can take a while, depending on the video size

So, I hope this is usefull for you.

Comments on the method or on the guide itself are always welcome.

Does the app allow to adjust at which point the subs start? I sometimes have issues with subs that are out of sync (maybe because they were downloaded separately?). At least it appears to have a small preview screen. Anyway thanks for nice tut.

well haven't personally followed this tutorial but I bookmarked it just in case, is there any loss in quality when applying hardcoded subs?

Try Subtitle Workshop from here > URUWorks - 100% Software Uruguayo
Its free and allows you to edit all the subtitles and even change the region (Pal v NTSC)

Any converting will result in loss of quality
