Offtopic has far too many sections for its own good. What we are suggesting here is that we limit it into a few. I was under the impression that the OP was talking about the start of OT from the scratch. That's why we are supporting the creation of a SD forum, be it that the "Brain Stew" remains as it is or something else created with a different name.

Thanks for the link though, I would have never guessed that this was a SERIOUS forum from the description, plus I am unable to participate there.

As Exa said, maybe you guys should think of lowering the progress limit one must have achieved in order to participate in these discussions. I understand that lowering it to 10% might be suicide, but how about 33%?

Let me expand on the point i was trying to make. Politics is something that i feel doesn't belong because of the fringe on both sides. They'll go back and forth on each other each hammering out their extreme points of ideology when they have no chance to convince one or the other. Everyone else who wants to have a moderate discussion will be pushed out by the voices of the more extreme to the point where it isn't even fun to read or participate in. Just asking the question will Barack Obama change America brought out the talk of Socialism, brainwashing and conspiracy theories and had to be moved over to Brain Stew because it was getting inflammatory.

I think both sides have their place, but not in a Torrent Invite forum. It's the internet for God's sake; the odds of having a courteous, respectful, and intellectual clash of ideas aren't nearly as high as talking about it with your family. I think the Barack Obama thread was good evidence of that.

Our point is that we don't want a forum where we can discuss socialism vs capitalism or anything like that. We want a forum where we are able to voice some political problems, or connect other issues with politics. If we are to have a more serious forum for in depth conversations, we must be able to comment on politics. After all most problems nowadays are not strictly related to politics.

As you can see if there is to be one thread talking strictly about politics, it can be easily controlled since it will be just one thread.

The only thing i don't agree with is the Politics section. I think it can be very polarizing and divide the community further. I don't really care what your political ideologies are, i just want to know if you're a cool person. I mean i don't even talk about politics with my family, let alone my friends. Other than that i say I'm looking forward to the changes.

I have a serious problem with the fact that society is taught that talking about politics is less acceptable than talking about sex.

You can't have a secure country if your entire population refuses to use their minds and discuss solutions to political problems. Ask yourself if all the problems we have in the world would be here if everyone was actively discussing politics and coming up with better solutions.

I think it's not only helpful, but essential to freedom, that people be encouraged to discuss politics.

Whether such a discussion would divide this community depends on the close-mindedness of the people in the discussion. If you can't intelligently discuss something you don't agree with without blowing up over it - you shouldn't jump into the conversation to begin with.

I think people here are - in general - intelligent enough to not get into a discussion that they know they will get heated about when they are aware that doing so could risk them infractions.

However - I agree that politics wouldn't be considered "tiddle taddle" - if a section for politics was made I think it would be best to put it as a subsection of Brainstew.

TBH I kind of like the offtopic sub-forums.
I do agree that there are a lot of junk threads, but there are good ones too.

I'm gonna sit this one out for the most part, but as long as the range of topics is not limited i'll be happy :laugh:

Yes, it's time we clean up that section. Moving the General Discussion forum to Off Topic makes sense. As does the merging of Tiddle Taddle into a single Entertainment forum.

I also like Okidata's idea of a Programming forum. It would be nice to know who has coding experience so we can ask for help on some much needed scripts. i.e. Automatically moving completed intros to Accepted & Rejected & an imagehost url scanner.

Well.. I like the suggestions at this thread. Some sub-forums could be merged like others have mentioned (Games,music,video -> Entertainment forum) and new ones be created as Dave suggested. But I believe none of the sub-forums should be deleted. The sub-forums should either merged with others or just let them be.
