A warning to the T-I community

I have received warning that staff at a certain tracker, music.thenet, is under suspicion of attempting to defraud members, steal passwords, and hack accounts. Several members of MTN allegedly lost accounts at sites like What.CD and FTN after MTN staff stole their password and hijacked the accounts.



While none of this has been proven, enough whispers eventually become a roar. Please take extreme caution with this tracker. I urge you to think strongly before signing up at MTN. If you are already a member, here are a few steps you can take to protect yourself.

• be sure to protect your other tracker accounts by changing your password (and email if you can) at other sites.
  

• Use a different password at each tracker. Use a random password generator - a good one can be found here.
  

• Allow the account to die. Use other respected music trackers like Waffles, VIPMusic, STM, Elektronik, and TT

Closing your account may seem the best option, but several members report receiving a 404 error when attempting to delete their own account. Whether this is further evidence of malicious activity, or a genuine coincidence, remains to be seen.

Although I'm not a member this particular tracker; it makes you wonder about becoming a member at any lesser known torrent sites. Just because it's open to registration doesn't mean you should join any community before doing a little bit of research first.

I'm not too sure about other people, but I for one, tend to use various nicks and different passwords for all my trackers. Yes, it might be a bit of a pain and, yes, maybe some consider it paranoia; but, this here just gives you the more reason to fully secure yourself from these malicious acts.

Sorry to those who lost their accounts to said trackers, but hopefully this open other's eyes to take necessary precautions and be more selective when you join a tracker.

i remember a similar case. Djharbuz, sysop on tvt.ro, was accused exactly like in this case: steal passwords, and hack accounts....and he had a lot problems

finally he proved that all accusations had been false


I don`t know nothing about this case, but i can tell you that are a lot scammers outhere.
Anyway, me personally, i try to use diferit pass and usernames on trackers.
