I agree. I think some people are just over complicating things. When you start a G/A you shouldn't be worried about how much rep you'll receive for it (well I never do anyway), you should be doing it to help others. Thats what it's all about. Being repped for it is just a byproduct of being helpful. Unlike the member I reported to an admin yesterday who keeps creating threads for the same tracker yet very few people actually receive invites.



Bottom line, use common sense, if a post is useful and helpful then thank it. Don't ever expect to be thanked for a post, it'll come eventually. These rules have always been in place and should really affect only a minority of users. The rep requirememnts to move up to higher sections are not that high anyway so it's not like you have to rep-pad with your friends.

I think most newcomers here are hesitant to simply push the thanks button, or maybe some people are just assholes and don't feel like givin props to their fellow MAN.

Anyways, rep's kinda hard to get without giving away torrents. I'd expect most of these people to cheat.

Isn't the point of the community to give and receive invites?

Well of course but what I'm saying is most newcomers have a very limited amount of invites to giveaway or they're coming from public trackers or sites like demonoid/bitsoup where any swingin dick can get in.

They come here to get an invite on that exclusive tracker where their best shot is to get into the "trusted giveaway" section, and without any invites to giveaway they must rely on the prop givers to simply push the thanks button on a useful post. Problem is, for whatever reason, people don't like giving thanks and praise.

Then they start off like alot of newcomers who come here. They apply for mid level trackers, slowly build up good ratios and receive invites to give back. They can also choose to participate in the forums and post helpful advice for other users. Doing that does make your rep build up quite fast, but only if your being a useful member. It's really up to the individual themselfs how fast they want their rep to build up.

i hope this is enforced, seeing how some people don't thank those who do stuff and thank others for no reason

Is stating the word rep in a giveaway okay in any circumstances then or no? I know i did this in the past and I will definitely not do it in the future and take it out of my ga's now, but scrolling through people's GA's this is the case in many, many threads (just for clarification you can you say, "if you like this GA, hit the rep button" correct?)

what about in the case of signatures where the signature says if i helped you give me rep?

I always thought asking for rep was kinda lame, if they like your GA then they'll rep it of their own accord. Pretty sure it's against thhe rules to ask for it anyway.

I used to have that in my signature when I first signed up, then I realised how stupid and or desperate it looks. Again, they'll rep you without a statement like that in your sig.

It is not okay to ask for it in a giveaway or to mention it at all. At the moment it's okay for it to be in your signature. That may change at some point, but for now it's allowed.
